There is no grey area when you attack someone because of their gender, race or sexual orientation. None.

Sigh. If I'm shot because I was foolish enough to wander through a highrisk area I'd be just as dead as if I was shot because I was a woman or gay or, for God's sake and heaven help me, a Republican. The thought process involved in the mind of the perp seems a bit irrelevant at that point. I think this "hate crime" business has nothing to do with justice and everything to do with grievance politics.

I guess where the grey area comes in may be summarized as follows: people who dress like a hooker should not be shocked if they are treated like one. Use a dominatrix as an avatar and don't be shocked when someone makes a sexist remark.

I think we all agree that **** is a very very bad thing.

So, as a single guy, I'm guilty—by association—of drugging and raping women.

Yeah, thanks. Thanks a lot.

You must excuse BarracksSi's ignorance and lack of education that come through in his posts -- it's tough being someone who thinks he's smarter than everyone else (when obviously he's not).

BarracksSi's attitude is definitely one of the reasons why there is a lot of hostility in these forums.

Rewarded behavior.

Nice to see the trailer park mentality rising to the surface.

It's terrifically annoying, isn't it? It's like when a girl buys a top to accentuate her chest, even asking a friend, "How do my boobs look?", then gets upset when guys stare at her boobs.

Gee, why d'ya think they do? Duuuuhhhhhhh......

Hey, sorry that you lost the other argument and got all butt-hurt because I called out your idiocy.

I guess I don't like buttering people up before they get screwed. I should continue to stay out of politics.

WCoastPeddler 09-20-09 11:48 AM

What the heck are you going on about? Lost what argument? Are you referring to the Critical Mass discussion -- if so, you're delusional and your helmet must be on too tight.

Not all guys., humans would have died off long ago if that were the case.

Oh yeah, the one that asked one of the most ridiculously stupid and idiotic questions I've ever seen on BF: "How do I start a Critical Mass?"

You were a moron there, too. No wonder you haven't learned your lesson -- you don't know when you've lost.

Very good question.

Admins, why is ouright calling someone stupid or a moron tolerated in these forums?

My point is, having a right doesn't make it right. And quite frankly, i have no desire to be pc. I'm extremely tired of watching movements go from people not having rights to those same people abusing rights. And when it comes to women being provocative, it's not anyones personal view of whether or not she is, but the general opinion that will matter. And if a woman is seen as a dick tease, there won't be much sympathy for her when she gets called on it. Again, own what you do.

because 9.9 times out of 10, it's true.

can we get back on topic now?

My wife works in sexual assault prevention on a large college campus, and the number of women who get ***** is ridiculously shocking--the number of men who never see any consequences for it is even more nauseating. The "she was asking for it" culture goes well beyond walking through Central Park at 2 AM. Yes, the reality is that it's a bad idea, but the only one truly "wrong" is the man who takes advantage of that situation. And going back to your "general opinion" idea, there are plenty of frat boys whose brothers have the "general opinion" that drugging and gang raping women is perfectly OK, and that "if they don't want it, they shouldn't be hot." Yes, that's a real quote. Personally, I'd like to change that culture before my daughter has to grow up in it.

Bottom line is that if men didn't **** women, there'd be no women getting *****, even if women walked down the street completely naked.

Dr. Pete, how did you educate your daughter? Likely the same way I educated my 17 year old and will educate my 7 month old. You can't be UN-*****, you can't be UN-murdered. There is a Bill of Rights, but there also needs to be a "Bill of Responsibilities." We are devolving into a society (and maybe even a forum) where there are only rights, not responsibilities. The ultimate result is still undesirable.

Just thought I'd point out you're on page 11 and neither of the previous two pages had anything to do with road biking or the road bike forum. Can someone take out the garbage?

Being a woman and dressing a certain way is only going to be considered "high risk" as long as we (as a society) decide that violent sexual behaviour toward women is OK under certain circumstances. Why can't we just, as with the examples above, decide that it's wrong. Because, you know, it is.

Ask your wives, girlfriends, sisters and female friends ... women that you can all pretty much know not be "those sorts of women", you know, the kind that "ask for it". You will likely be shocked at the number of them that have endured inappropriate sexual advances from men. And when I say that, I don't mean some guy coming on too strong at a bar or the local construction yahoos shouting out some choice comments. I mean scary encounters. It should give you pause.

Trigger, I saw this post and simply don't know where to begin, so I won't.

I tend to agree, even though some here have said it isn't true. ABC had a story on about a month ago detailing some university study on the topic. When given no income data, women rated the attractiveness of a select set of men. The men's data and photos were then given to another test set of women, this time with the ones who rated lowest having the highest reported income. While the ratings did not invert, the "uglies" with money sure got a whole lot more acceptable/desirable.

So, maybe there is some truth to the claim that women find "oggling" acceptable from certain men and not from others.

If they did that with every thread and post, we'd only have about ten percent left.
