bad rc pilot about 25 seconds in.
im an rc guy. we arent all @ssclowns. like people, motorists, cyclists in general and ones on BF, there are guys who need a good beatdown, but most of them are ok.
reckon that was about $500 in the pond. he deserved a good punch in the head, as behavior like that makes all of us, rc guys, look bad.

Hard to believe it was an older guy doing that. Things had to go your way for you to "catch" the car. I probably would have just smashed it in the road. Good job.

honestly he was probably just playing around and didn't realize how dumb he was being. i would ride by next time and if you see him tell him that you dont mind he rides his cars in the street but if you are on your bike could he please stay away. that you would hate to "accidentally" run it over. He wont ride by you anymore.

This is probably the right thing to do, but the OP story was 500x more entertaining. I would have rode home with it, then returned it the next day after dipping it in neon green and orange paint.

The past few times out on my normal 60 km ride I pass a house in the country with a guy, maybe 55 or so, playing around with pretty good sized gas RC cars.
Three times he waits for you to pass, then chases you down with this thing zig zagging all around you. Now, I am all for fun but this is a steep climb going and a high speed decent returning. This thing could cause damage to me and my bike.
I passed him today climbing and he literally does a couple of circles around me. I was thinking about going back but also know the outcome may not be good.
On the way back, I go by his place at about 60 km/h and sure enough this F'in thing goes tearing by about a foot to my left. I hit the brakes just as he turns it right and it ends up trapped under my front tire.
I wasn't too happy and really wanted to confront the moron but instead, reached down and picked the car up, tires spinning and the guy yelling and running towards me from a block away. He obviously wants his toy back unharmed.
I just clipped in, car in hand, rode a couple of km's and threw it into a local farms drainage pond. The guy was no longer in sight so I am sure he doesn't know where it is unless there is a gas slick on the pond.
Some freekin people!! I wonder what my next ride holds..

jdon,
May I inquire as to where this incident took place?
Your signature says GTA. I live in Oakville. Though I am done for the year due to achilles tendinitis; when I get back on the bike in spring, I don't want to incur anger meant for you.

Great story!
The thing is, he may never "play with" any cyclists again, or, and this is a disturbing consideration, he may try to exact "revenge" on some other rider (obviously you aren't going back for a loonnng time).
Maybe you should drive over there in your car, leave a message in his mailbox telling him where his toy is, and that stunt he was playing could have crippled or killed a cyclist, sending him to jail and losing his life savings in a civil lawsuit.

I can understand the impulse, but it might have been more effective to simply stop and make him ask for it back. Then tell him face to face how you feel about his activities.

More likely he views it as he buzzed a cyclist, who reached down and stole the car. There is probably a police report with OP's description on it. I doubt he thinks he did anything wrong or even pissed anyone off, because no one ever communicated this to him.

Ever heard the saying "Two wrongs dont make a right?"
Next time try politely talking to the guy and explaining how dangerous it is, instead of being a jack*$$ back to him. Doing something like what you did makes you just as bad as him.

Oh would you guys quit white knighting the ******bag RC guy?
I would have just chucked it a ways away from the guy, but I still think he had it coming. Or just curb stomp the thing. Still, he should expect destruction from buzzing a car, why should buzzing a cyclist result in a different outcome?

Maybe I should have just given him a "time out"? There is nothing polite about repeatedly trying to foul someone on a bike up with a high speed motorized toy. He is a grown man in his 50's, not a 5 year old that needs to be schooled between right and wrong. I view it as disarming him.

And what does it matter how old he is? Are manners only for kids? Being jerks and "getting even" is what real adults do?
All you've done is make him associate cyclists as jerks.

I'd have kept the car, called the cops and given it to the dispatched officer and explained the situation.

Noone is white knighting him. Yes, he was wrong to do it. But being a jerk back to him is not the right way to go. RETALIATION DOESNT SOLVE ANYTHING. Now the guy is going to just have resentment for cyclists. Really, what is wrong with calmly explaining to the guy why it was dangerous? Why is it better to elevate the situation?
Yea, give him a "time out". No, try talking to him like an adult. Noone said anything about him being polite. I view it as you being just a big a ******bag as he was.
