Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Search function is totally broken. WTH?

There were some problems with the old search engine but the new one is totally broken. The default selection for sorting by 'topic' is sub optimal. I prefer to sort by thread 'Start Date' which does not work at all. Every time I try to sort using start date the results are 'Sorry no matches found' for any topic. If you change the sort by category to 'last post date'...then you get results but not sorted the way you want. Either way it seems broken and sometimes random searches filter by 'title only' will produce zero results and performing the same search using google will produce results that should have been found using the forum search engine. Maybe this has already been posted but I'm having trouble using the search function to double check Please fix this.

horrendous. the most useful thing was searching by forum. you could weed out hundreds of irrelevant threads. now i cant get any results even typing in obvious words that should return ten thousand results.

Yeah, it isn't as user friendly as it used to be, that's fior sure!
Maybe the BF Illuminati are trying to get users to post more useless threads that have already been discussed ad nasuem.
Rather than attempt to find answers by searching for a topic that's already been discussed ad nasuem.

Now what saddle should I buy?

no it doesn't but the google search is better all around and it is obviously better than a search function which doesn't function.

This is the ONLY forum I participate in that requires and outside search engine to find topics that should be easily located and sorted much more effectively than this new search engine. I had trouble finding topics on the old version as well. Even when you know a search should produce results and when double checking with goolge the forum search would consistently produce zero results. Now that problem is still present but worse and the format is poorly laid out. I like this forum and hope this can be sorted out. It makes participation a hassle.

Bikes: Some bikes. Hell, they're all the same, ain't they?

Did the original question imply that BF's search function ever worked?

I'd be happy if the forum itself worked.

THAT... I agree with.

The NEW Search works well. I hated the old one, too much pre-work ! Now I simply type in a word or at most two in "Advanced Search" up in the rt.hand corner and it comes up. Sure I still to sift through the posts/threads myself but doesn't one need to do that anyway ? More than enough beats not enough anytime.

I've had to try it as many as three times before it would "take" but it works. the first one or two times It bounces me back to new posts, no biggy. I keep it simple. For example today I typed in a model of a bike, one word, a common one at that and I got half what I was looking for and half of what I wasn't which obvious enough to not bother reading, don't see a problem.

then why didn't you use google, instead of creating this mind numbing thread?

I have to find something to complain about. It's pooring rain right now so the fact that the search function is barely functional is even more frustrating.
