Roadie body...

Okay let's discuss the roadie body. Does anyone else find it really sickly and ugly??

We have thin arms, geberally small chest and smallback. We have ugly tan lines which look awful if we go for a swim. We do have built legs with muscle but the muscles dont aid in runnin or walking as much ad runner legs do.

What do you guys think?

kinofaucet 12-15-09 03:20 AM

I totally agree with you. I was bigger but looked more normal before I started cycling 5 times a week.

zatopek 12-15-09 03:28 AM

Ovoleg, you've added a new dimension to BF members' self-loathing.

rustybrown 12-15-09 03:30 AM

Agreed, yet roadies still flaunt it with pride, in lycra. What a paradox.

Who can argue with this? Well done ovo. You suck.

Basil Moss 12-15-09 03:44 AM

Many do look like a hybrid of athlete and famine victim, it's true...

cyclefreaksix 12-15-09 03:50 AM

Ever notice how those guys modeling cycling gear look like they spend more time in a gym than on a bike? Even if I lost twenty pounds (5 down, 15 to go) I'll still look more like a linebacker than a roadie. Which probably explains why I suck at riding.

How's that for self loathing?

coasting 12-15-09 03:52 AM

only those who are good at this sport look like freaks. i look like a god

cyclezealot 12-15-09 03:54 AM

When recognized on a plane by other unknown cyclists' for flaunting my cyclist tan- I felt nothing but pride.. I thought it was an American virtue. You can never be too thin.Wish I was..!...It's easier to tackle the next mountain...
. Still, that does not mean you can't end your century with 10 push ups... ?

RacerOne 12-15-09 03:58 AM

Yeah, I think most of us could stand a few push ups now and then.

daven1986 12-15-09 04:12 AM

As I have no intention of racing I try to do a lot of upper body workouts, pullups and pushups being staples. I don't care if it makes me worse at cycling!

FreddyV 12-15-09 04:46 AM

So I'm a pitiful excuse for a roadie?

6'2" at 180lbs

BananaTugger 12-15-09 06:14 AM

Light is right.

Grumpy McTrumpy 12-15-09 06:46 AM

How long O lord

rbart4506 12-15-09 07:05 AM

5'-9", 132lbs....I think I look just fine :)

Quel 12-15-09 07:05 AM

Hipsters have made being skinny fashionable. Now you just need to fix the tan lines.

I'm a skinny mofo 6' @ 125lbs. I never stand up to pedal, even on big hills :)

Who cares? It's fun.

Atol 12-15-09 07:32 AM

Hey aren't you the guy who made the tanning thread a couple days ago? Why are you so worried about how cyclists look?

:notamused:

Banzai 12-15-09 07:41 AM

Speak for yerself.

I work out and stay physically fit in other ways too. Apparently, from a thread here a couple of days back, so does Lance; someone posted up a pic of "ripped" Lance doing pliometrics with dumbbells.

I guess the OP is just a skinny freak and wants to justify it somehow. ;)

coasting 12-15-09 08:37 AM

last weekend, i was riding behind someone who looked like a woman. as i passed (yes i was really fast) i looked across and saw she had a full beard.

jdon 12-15-09 09:23 AM

I lead a pretty physical life and tend to put on upper body mass so am not a stereotypical cyclist. Like a diesel, I won't be the first at the top of a climb but I get there with constant effort and without fail.

Funnily enough, I love climbing.
