Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mavic CycloMeter w/ Altimeter

Does anybody have or has anybody used one of these?
Mavic Wintech Alti Cycle Computer
https://www.nashbar.com/webapp/wcs/s...oductId=505885

I am very interested in a cyclometer with an altimeter and they cheaper ones seem to run in the price range. I know they make decent wheels, how are mavics computers? Right now it is close to half off and can save an additional 20% so I am quite curious.

Thoughts, Opinions?

I have the WinTech without altitude. It has worked well in all conditions for the two years it has been on my bike so no complaints.

Thank you. It is supposed to be one of the most accurate altimeters which is really my big draw to it. Do you have a picture of what it looks like mounted?

I got the ultimate earlier this year. I have been happy thus far, but sadly have not used it for more than a few hundred miles. Works good though, no complaints here. Clean mounting positions, one that sits directly on the stem and one that kind of extends in front of your handlebars.

Sorry, I don't but it isn't offensive looking and isn't that big. Easily read though.

Both clamped to the stem? Or is on attached to the handlebars. Not that it matters, I am just thinking that on my touring bike I have the EA70 Ergo Wing bars and they are shaped quite funny for mounting things.

It clamps to the handlebars, but still sits over the stem or directly in front of the stem. I have wing bars too(FSA something or another) and where they cinch to regular round size in the middle of the bar to become attached to the stem, there was still enough space on each side of the stem to utilize the mavic clamp. I hope that makes sense, haha.

Yes. Like the 2" either side of stem untaped and not tapered. I am going to have to figure something out for my light then. Either way, the stem clamp will probably work just fine.

I got one at the first of the year. I love it's features but the total altitude climbed seems to always be higher than TOPO USA has it. I still don't know which one is truly accurate.

Buy something else. As with most thing with 'Mavic' on them these days, they fail. Mine was 3 months old when it started acting up. Fresh batteries went in and it wasn't any better. The LBS gave me another one and it lasted @ 3 weeks. It's now at the bottom of the river...

Correct. They all suck. Hence my affection for $20-$25 Filzer units from Performance. I have 3 of them. They are actually amazingly reliable. Cheap, light, durable. Pick three. Amazingly enough the Frediscenti here actually give me crap about these bike computers, which have never failed to date, tons of miles on them:
