Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mixing Dura-Ace and Record

A couple of months ago me and a buddy of mine built up an 06 Tarmac using both dura-ace and record mainly because it was all I had available and needed a spare bike. Heres the setup:

DA components: Brakes, chainrings/crankset, FD

Record components: Shifters, RD, chain, cassette

Everything has been running smooth so far but I just had a few questions that I was hoping someone could help with. First, because I have a DA chainring, will the record chain cause it to wear down faster? Also, would it be possible to change the Record chain and cassette to DA? Thanks

assuming 10-sp everything, use whatever chain you want, they are all the same width. a DA cassette will not index correctly with the record shifters, you need to stick to campy 10-sp cassettes (centaur, veloce, chorus, record, sr...)

What he said. It really sounds to me like you've got the best of both worlds on that bike. Sounds like a nice ride!

Yes everything is 10-sp but I was afraid of the cassette not working, thanks for the help.

you're almost there ... get rid of this stuff (DA components: Brakes, chainrings/crankset, FD) before it breaks and leaves you stranded and you'll be ok.

Blasphemy. You are doomed to spontaneous combustion and the wrath of Tulio.

IMO the best of both worlds includes:
Ergolevers
Shimano style rear hub

Plus whatever else nice kit you like... having just fully overhauled some old STI levers, I feel qualified to state the whole idea is as rubbish as Campy rear hubs. Ergo FTW.
