Not the way Carlos is riding. Cadel and Ivan have dropped him consistently for the past 3 weeks on almost every climb, particularly on the toughest climbs.

That's why I said "outside shot". You're right that he hasn't show it this race, but he has that kind of potential, and has hung in there so far.

Most interestingly, the climb times have been a minute or two slower than just a couple of years ago; some anecdotal indication that maybe the anti-doping controls may be having an impact on pro cycling. Let's hope so. Maybe they're cleaning up.

50 miles on clinchers today, no flats.
Alert the Guiness Book of World Records. Coasting, don't you know those guys? |
50 miles is your longest ride ever?
|
So I take back the Sastre comment....but was still right about Cadel. Has no chance against Basso on climbs this big.
|
Inauspicious start: got a flat only three rides in to the new Conti Attack/Force duo.

today i got my 110mm stem and replaced my initial 90mm stem. i felt like all the pressure was taken off my shoulders. tomorrow i will give the new set-up a nice 80 test ride and if no pain developes, I will declare my new bike finally complete.
moral of the story. listen to your body. don't try and adapt to an ill fitting set-up. |

For all around riding in slop, my pick would be Bontrager Hardcases (the "Race Lite" lingo is a joke -- they weigh over 300g). Flat resistance is very good and they're cheap. You'd definitely want to swap out the tires on race day. |
vittorio rubino pro. i'm sticking with those. very happy camper.
|
What kind of complete Fred Idiot recommends friggin Bontrager? Good grief.
