Believe it or not, I've changed many a tire in my very, very short life.

is velovol going to follow the world cup or is he going to continue to get excited about college baseball.

Velo Vol 05-27-10 04:13 PM

(1) I don't get excited about anything baseball.

(2) How much is there to "follow"? You can watch a complete soccer game highlight reel in 10 seconds.

The same is often said of cycling.

I'm wondering how people even get pinch flats.

Due to riding circumstances, I get considerably more flats (and therefore have to change more tires) than most people. I have yet to get a pinch flat. If the tube is in the tire, you ain't getting one and there's nothing to check. That's an easy thing to do right even in the dark and the rain.

But I also don't have regular problems with mystery "brake rubs" either :innocent:

patentcad 05-27-10 06:03 PM

The pinch flats I got in the last couple of days were due to:

• Tired Conti GP4000 tires, they had a couple of thousand miles on them, even though they had tread life left, when the beads get that old and limp they start allowing the tube to sneak under, it gets to the point where it's almost impossible to properly mount a tube without getting it pinched, new tire time.

• Even with a new tire and tube I got another pinch flat, chalk that up to the Zipp 404 clincher rim, toughest rim I've ever mounted tires and tubes on, you have to be ultra vigilant to avoid pinch flats, in the end I had to re-mount the tire and put in yet another tube, now it seems OK.

I've been through this routine in the past with GP 4000 tires and these 404 clinchers, it's that combination that can be difficult. I have a bunch of wheels/tires, these are difficult at times.

P.S. The tire that blew overnight was the one the mechanic at the bike shop had mounted. You know the guy who mounts tires and tubes all day long. I'm telling you these rims take some getting used to, you have to know what to watch out for when you're mounting 'em up to not get pinch flats.

Sometime I inflate a little before sometimes I don't, but as long as you are not an idiot it is pretty easy to avoid mis-seating the bead. Pcad I bet you just have something stuck in there put on some leather gloves and finger the tube.

I thought flats happen to everyone. Then I purchased real tires and they magically went away. I replace them fairly frequently. I don't know about rolling resistance and whatnot, but paying $50 inseatd of $25 for tires that don't flat seems like one of the best upgrades someone can do.

I use nothing but $50 Conti tires and good tubes. No, there is nothing in the tire, this was a pinch flat. Yes, I am certain of this.

"Put on some leather gloves and finger the tube"?

You are a sick, sick Fredly man.

I will ride 50 miles of easy tempo on the S2 in the AM. It is ready to rock.

KiddSisko 05-27-10 06:17 PM

I've found your new bike Pcad. A Cervelo no less. Got 10 grand?

I experienced that with Maxxis tires. The bead slips off the rim just enough to allow the tube to creep under and POP.

mzeffex 05-27-10 06:24 PM

I was gonna say that isn't much compared to a lot of bikes. Then I realized that $9800 price tag was just for the frame/fork/seatpost/crank. Ouch.

patentcad 05-27-10 06:40 PM

What kind of idiot spends over five grand on a friggin bicycle?

mzeffex 05-27-10 06:45 PM

Not sure if that's sarcastic or not. Wasn't your S2 about 5k? Then the zipps, that's another 1200.

Pcad's beguiling subtlety can be rather elusive for the Fredly Densiteria of BF.

I believe that's the price he said he paid on the bay.

patentcad 05-27-10 06:55 PM

You can only find $1200 Zipps on eBay. Used.

Midget used to be all nice. Now he has turned into mini botto. I have lost count of the number of facepalms he has unleashed upon poor unsuspecting souls.

No way. midget still speaks in complete sentences. It takes a supreme amount of idiocy to get botto to speak more than two words.......... well at least in the 41.
