Which it does. Like I said, I haven't measured in a while. And there always seems to be measurement variation, shoe factor, etc. Maybe I'll remeasure.

Most of my favorite rides here involve longer, sustained climbs of 5-8%. That's the benefit of living in a valley surrounded by mountain towns. We have the short 10-15% grades, but not over a 5-10 mile climb. Or maybe we do. Selective memory. I'm too old that type of schlitz anyway.

I'd probably give up this stupid sport if I was forced to resort to flat, sea level roads.

Find a gear you like and mash it. At least that's what my head tells me.

How long? I've never heard of sustained climbs at that gradient, maybe only a maximum pitch of 25%. No biggie, just go slower.

This is the craziest climb I have ever seen (not live) and it is only an average of 11.9% although it has sections averaging 18-22%

Like the bassist for Slipknot. Is it necessary to describe it as an "accidental overdose" when a needle is found in his arm?

Apparently, their lyrics were "dark."

Have you done this one yet? Sounds like just your thing... 36 miles of up to 10,000 feet, mostly at around 5-6%. Perhaps the Pcad Corp jet could take the long way home.

If you can get up Ash Street happily with a 39 x 23, I'm happy for you. I can grind up hills that steep in the 23, but it really sucks. It sucks in the 25, but less. There does come a point where mashing the bigger gear is pointless, and a 23 on Ash Street falls into that category. Those other hills you mentioned aren't that steep. Ash Street's a bear. That has to be 17-18%+. Thankfully it's rather short. A 39x 27 would really be better for some grades on some rides around here (the ones like Ash Street like my own hill).

I did a bike Biathlon early this year. It consisted of biking to check points (which were conveniently located up several STEEP hills) and taking a shot at a target using a slingshot the first time, and bb gun the 2nd and third time. Oh and there were also warm jello shots to take too.

Also I got my ass kicked on the ride. I ended up doing only 3 pulls and got dropped at mile 11.35. I kept going and eventually picked up with the B group at mile 20. It sucks because the B group is a little too slow while the A group is way to fast. Ended up averaging 20.5mph over the 43 miles. I think the A group was doing 23.5-24mph average when I dropped off.

I feel like a Fredoholism counselor on this thread.

Why do so many people on BF think you're a blowhard, yet others appear to revere your existence? You're an enigma stuffed with beetroot.

Because even in a roomful of imbeciles, there is always a faint glimmer of cognizance.

The Mets are up 10-0 against the Tigers in the 4th. They may have a chance.

patentcad 06-22-10 07:38 PM

Wait. Who thinks I'm a blowhard?

Give 'em time.

I've been riding the S2/Zipp clincher setup for the past week. Love that bike too.

It's an embarrassment of Bike Weenie Riches.

Actually I think I'll take the TT bike out for quick hammer session in the AM.

The Tigers' first two hits of the game against Niese were a double and a HR.

10-2.

patentcad 06-22-10 07:41 PM

Another double.

Uh-oh.

I say everyone who actively participates in this thread should meet up for a group ride. We have to meet in some obscure location, where hopefully the paparazzi will not find us. My suggestion is the Vatican. Who's in?

It's inherently problematic to have two nice bikes. How would you decide which one to ride? Would you feel compelled to ride the new bike although the old one had qualities the new bike lacks.

It's all very complicated.

And an embarrassment of riches. What wheels are on the Addict?

I'm sure the Pope and his Cardinals will be very happy to meet our junior members.;)

That's right. And with fewer than 900 inhabitants, traffic should be low.

I forget - are you a Jr.?

Nope. I'm almost ready for my titanium bike.
