Where did you get that idea? I can't remember the last time I did an organized fred century. Besides, I don't have any road nazi credentials besides my USA Cycling license, which doesn't count for much.

Hrm.

If this is indeed the case, why have you not turned pro?

I guess my memory was a little fuzzy, we only averaged 18.5. Still a good pace for 207mi.

I do not.

I do have Mets Malaise, but that is an inherited chronic and incurable disease.

am i a canny shopper or what? i just bought a computer with altimeter, heart rate and cadence for £65 compared to well over £100 for polar. then i read a whole bunch of bad reviews. oh well.

What happened to your legs being your computer?

Hey, I made me laugh, that's all that matters.

I'm hungry.

The only feature that really adds over my cheapo cateye is cadence.

coasting 06-28-10 03:14 PM

i just noticed a thread title about buyers remorse. what excellent timing.

Velo Vol 06-28-10 03:17 PM

What doesn't the price of cycle computers drop like the cost of personal computers does?

I just looked at what I bought five years ago, and it costs more now than it did back then.

coasting 06-28-10 03:19 PM

since i started cycling again in 2005, prices of stuff i bought has only gone up. massively in the last 2 years.

Velo Vol 06-28-10 04:13 PM

I don't know why. I don't see a massive spike in demand for performance-grade road bike gear with 10% unemployment and 1-2% economic growth, if that.

Velo Vol 06-28-10 04:14 PM

I wonder if new users ever find this thread to be helpful?

Speaking of prices, I was browsing nytro (so. cal. bike shop) at lunch today and they are taking pre-orders for the Cervelo R5ca frameset for $9,799.95, even comes with a crank, although I'm not sure if the BB is included or about s/h charges.

Aside from it looking totally boring yet being a cutting-edge Cervelo, does $9,799.95 seem excessive to anyone else besides me? Are we witnessing a bike-schwag bubble in real-time?

No Cervelo for me.

coasting 06-28-10 05:00 PM

yes. bubble. when i built up my bike last year, i got a 105 crankset for just under £60. Last time i looked it was going for nearer £120. 100% inflation. nice.

when this bubble bursts, all the poseurs will be left with over-valued unsellable assets.

Velo Vol 06-28-10 05:05 PM

I asked about tubes when I stopped by the bike shop on Friday.

I think he said they are $7 or $8.

Give me a break. I got a patch kit.
