Hey Pcad,

When are you going to Greece? Will you be travel "blogging" about your experiences?

I thought Greece filed Chapter 11 and went out of business.

No doubt that is why the shorts thread vanished - not wanting to leave a bad impression for all the newcomers. Few things are more uncomfortable than having to look at the backside of a cyclist.

LMAO...doesn't this forum come with a warning label?

I feel really fat this morning. I know nothing has changed over night but somehow the feeling of fatness seems to be unrelated to real fatness.

I think I'll skip lunch.

Good grief, do I have to wait until the new Wall Street movie in September to see a good flick? The trailer for that has M. Douglas' character with Sympathy for the Devil rocking on the soundtrack. I can't wait.

Sequels and remakes suck. Trust me on this.

Gordon Gekko rides a Cervelo.

Yesterday evening when I was riding round the park, I realised that that was the only place I could ride in London without start stop and without bumper to bumper traffic so bad that you can't even weave around with superior bike handling skills. Either that or my bike handling skills are poor. I tried riding before rush hour, late morning, lunchtime, afternoons. Never a pleasure. People who commute must think cycling is a real chore.

Seems odd that people talk about wall streeters being into cycling. It is so time consuming I wonder how they find time to ride regularly.

coasting 07-02-10 04:13 AM

Back on topic.

My computer arrived this morning but I looked at all the bits and pieces and thought what a hassle; I can't be bothered to fit it. I should clean the bike before fitting too and that's another annoyance. I'm done with washing bikes. It is a pointless exercise just like trying to teach a dog to speak swahili.

Evelyn Stevens, now the USA Pro Women's TT Champ, is an ex Wall Streeter. She started cycling two years ago @ age 24. Cat 5 to top pro in the USA in two years. That's progress. Maybe they can write a Bicycling Mag article about how you can do that too.

Evelyn rides an Addict by the way. Just sayin'.

Just to remind you, Evelyn dropped me on the Nyack Ride on the Hook. So tell the morons in the 33 I've been dropped by faster girls than them (she's probably faster than all the idiots in the 33 by the way).

heckler 07-02-10 05:49 AM

maybe not all...there are a few 1s and 2s there that I am sure would give her problems...maybe not in a TT but in a race.

Commuting is a real chore, whether you're on a bike or in a car. That's why I gave it up.

I'm sure she can be out sprinted. But I don't think there are too many amateur men faster than Evelyn. Or who can climb with her. Her result on the 35km course (47:38) would have landed her smack in the middle of the elite men's times. So that's pretty fast. Not too many amateurs are that fast. Maybe the faster TT guys in the bigger states like TX, NY, NY, CA, etc.

So I think a top pro woman like Evelyn would be tough in a hilly road race vs. amateur men, not so competitive in a crit or flatter race.

Those Garmins generate more ride stats than my basic Cateye does.

I did a Kinlin XR300, Pro+ with 32H - ~1160g... definitely not a feather, but it works.

I get tons of value from knowing the temperature profile of my rides. You should get one now.

Excellent. Rob gave me an incredible price on a rebuild of my Assault.

I just don't want to give up the wheel for the 2 weeks he estimated, which I anticipate will turn into 3.

I had the basic Cateye for a long time. Now it's on my SS.

I can't justify the Garmin, in part because I don't think I need the GPS. I switched to a Specialized computer, which surprisingly, offers a good deal of ride data at a fraction of the cost.

I got no power.

No, that's where the Pro+ rebuild comes in. For now, the Specialized will have to do.

so you will be faced with the P-tap thingy, Garmin 705 or Garmin 500 decision. I think PCad has an opinion on this.

sbxx1985 07-02-10 09:32 AM

He endorses the Joule. Others love the Garmin.

I don't think I need GPS. I was going to go with this, or buy it from Rob.

I did a Garmin 500. I don't know if I've figured everything out yet, but as near as I can tell it lacks the ability to get raw power data out for detailed geekdom that the 33 types seem to do per the book of Coggan.

The Garmin does do a nice job with elevation and creating workouts and courses. I like using real geographical points to set intervals vs. using just time or distance and ending up having to try and go hard down some stupid hill.
