Fortunately we have BikeForums to distract us as we edge ever nearer to a lonely death.

Fixed.

Oh shut up. I had a melt down alright. The weather was so hot the tarmac was melting and sticking to my tyres making popping sounds.

It was the most brutal ride I have ever done and i now know where i stand with other cyclists. I suck. Ride time over 7.30 but I'm glad everyone thought it was a toughy. Even the road nazis said so. Ended up being about 7,000 ft climb and some really serious steep ones where i could barely turn the cranks standing without falling over. Previous most climbing i had ever done was 4,000.

Im dead.

Commonly called pavement or asphalt.

While the specific Tarmac pavement is not common in some countries today, many people use the word to refer to generic paved areas at airports,[5] especially the airport ramp or "apron", near the terminals despite the fact that many of these areas are in fact made of concrete.
Anyway, it appears I won the time prediction contest. What's my prize?

i have to read back after the world cup final which is kicking off. i rushed back to watch it. You were betting how much i would suck? sheesh. I'm not bearing my soul anymore.

Velo Vol 07-11-10 12:27 PM

The Dutch didn't even spell the name of their country correct on their warm-up gear.

Soccer.

Velo Vol 07-11-10 12:33 PM

One thing you can say for soccer: there's not very many fat players out there.

Can't say that for baseball.

I want to ask a serious question. how do you descend fast. I dont mean turns and how to take the right line. I mean simply getting up to speed fast and holding a high speed. I'm not trying to do it, i just found out that i am seriously fast downill on whatever gradient and i not only accelerate fast but i hold a higher speed. I thought it was weight but i was going faster than bigger folk not just the skinny road nazis. I do know that if it is straight, and often when not straight, i simply do not touch the brakes. is that it?

Quel 07-11-10 01:40 PM

Just got back from watching the capital crit downtown. It's damn hot, and all I did was ride 6 miles each way to go watch, never mind the guys racing 1:45. Guy from Jamis Sutter Home (edit: never mind, that guy wasn't there, can't remember who it was now) beat out Bobby Lea (Bahati) at the line after those two had a two-man break the last 6 laps or so.

Sorry for ruining this thread with actual cycling content.

50 mile group ride, was the "c" ride 16 mph. 4 stops. nice folks. I have to move up to the "B" group, if there is one. God, I hope so.

TMonk 07-11-10 02:17 PM

16mph??? Snore...............
I gotta be goin atleast 20 on a bike to be having any fun. Yes that means I hate climbing and headwinds. I'm not in the best shape either so usually I have to push myself and keep a low profile to be having that much fun...

EDIT: Group rides with large, powerful riders that provide an excellent draft help too :D

1- As you said, weight helps.
2- An aero position helps a lot (almost touching your stem with your chin).

Sorry to state the obvious.

Gluteus 07-11-10 03:40 PM

574 riders?

coasting 07-11-10 03:43 PM

well it certainly seemed like a lot. some parts were just a sea of lycra. quite a horrible sight.
