Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

that's odd. i thought you are supposed to keep the upper body still as possible.

Got the wife a bike today. It's heavy. Has a rear rack. Will have baskets soon enough. I see farmers markets and picnics in our future. Waiting at a stop light, a couple walked by - the guy eyed up my bike, the girl eye****ed my wife's bike. They envied us.

I saw it last night. Thought it was great. A little confusing at first, but nothing that I would qualify as "too smart" (and especially something I wouldn't qualify as "to smart", like heckler just did ). Lots of action and suspense. Felt like my heart beat was decently raised just sitting there watching.

If they were laughing because of your iron buns, shouldn't they be laughing at the view from behind, as opposed to the view from the front?

I don't know anything about the Springfields, but I love my Assaults. The wheels they replaced were Campy Eurus, which were incredible and trouble-free for 10,000 miles. The Assaults are stiff and fast and Reynolds makes a solid product. Utah-based company with good customer service. The price is also right.

Given that, I'd get the 2010 404 all carbon clinchers. Zipp knows that the eff they're doing, but you pay for it.

Turning the corner with your climbing technique is a wonderful feeling. For me, the technique was there but the engine wasn't performing. The check engine light went off yesterday.

I found your post illuminating. Some things I knew and some things I will try this afternoon.

But, don't tell anyone, okay?

Customer service award for today
I broke my first spoke on my rear Eurus wheel. My trusted LBS of 5 years told me the only way to replace the spoke was to buy the full 21 spoke replacement pack at $15/spoke. For their repeated incompetence, they were fired.

I went to my new trusted LBS - Louisville Cyclery. Owner bought a 6 spoke kit for $50 and then proceeded to somehow throw away my Chorus cassette. Picked up the wheel today - spoke replaced, wheel trued, five replacement spokes, and a shiny new Record cassette ($299.99).

$54 with tax. Credit where credit is due.

Uh huh. According to this the six-year graduation rate was higher in 2008 than it was in 1997.

Well, they didn't pop me off on the Pearl River section of the Rocket today, so that's something. Baby steps. And my skinny shorts are getting loose. Uh oh.

Hey, my team had 7 guys in an 85 man race in Prospect Saturday. They took 1,3,5 and 10th. If I had been there it would have been 1,3,5,10 and DFL or even DNF. Actually glad I missed it. Heard it was a rather disturbing crashfest. Those 35+ fields are generally very safe, but when they swell to 80+ in the mid summer heat, they get squirrelly.

It'd be interesting to see statistics that date further back.

I guess my college experience was different. No one I knew took more than four years to graduate. I just asked my wife if she considered the option of graduating in five years and she said no, it was never a consideration. Her Italian father would have killed her.

Elitist pigs.

Just when you think the Mets can't suck any harder, they prove you wrong. In that sense they are disturbingly like BF.

Oh noes.

Stupid car business. Eff that action. I want a Prius. The local dealer has 20+ in stock, and they're discounting the piss out of the friggin car. As well they should.

If you do get one of those cars, remember that the gas pedal is on the right and the brake pedal is on the left. Toyota drivers seem to have trouble with that.

Anyone up for a game of baseball? I hear that it's a nice down-to-earth team sport that is played by regular Joes who are not elitist in any way.
