What did you get from the last round of Synvisc? a year? Has the knee pain returned, or is this just maintenance?

The reviews I read said it may be to "smart" for the audience... clearly they were right

This is part of what I tried last night. Also, using my upper body differently to create more leverage pushing the pedals from 12 to 3 o'clock.

It's hard to say what difference it made, but it sure seemed like I at least accelerated faster coming over the crest of the hill.

That cold, gray, windswept, barren British Open looks so inviting. I wish I could roll out a blanket and have a picnic right on the 18th fareway.

i was at one of the most horrific days of a british open. I don't think I had ever seen such strong winds and they were still playing!

i went back to a covered area nad ate hotdogs and watched the big screen.

reynolds assaults vs. zipp 303 vs. zipp 404 vs. Springfield XD

choose one.

coasting 07-18-10 11:03 AM

reynolds sounds more sensible as a name. zipp sounds stupid. springfield reminds me of homer simpson.

Gear selection. I keep reading here to spin spin spin. Well, yes but don't over do it. Turns out I was choosing too low a gear. Where the gradient eases off a bit I normally kept the same really low gear and just spun more with little torque and rested. I was yelled at to gear up and although it took a bit more effort the preservation of momentum meant that when it got steep again I wasn't stuck and the speed kept higher but more importantly i could drop to a lower gear and keep the cadence going instead of it dropping off. momentum again.

Yep. And once you know the difference, you won't approach climbing the old, slow way. You'll know you can do better from having experienced it. The other important factor is breathing right. More air the better. And you can recover by dialing down the intensity just a tiny bit. Those with power meters do it all the time, but you can also learn to do it instinctively. Upshifting and standing for a time is another way to give muscles a break.

yep. the feel of the pedals is different when doing it right. it was a useful session.

I bring more of that here that you get in the entire 33.

patentcad 07-18-10 11:55 AM

404s.

patentcad 07-18-10 11:57 AM

Felt ok on the Rocket today. Slow first half, which left too many idiots there in the second half letting gaps open up. I closed them all of course. Tempo'd up to the top of the Pearl River climb and felt good on the hill. Then me and Unckie Don turned around to go back to Wyckoff. 56 miles in the heat and humidity.

Apologies?

coasting 07-18-10 12:03 PM

i got a message from someone I rode an organised ride with last week telling me to join her at this other ride she was doing today. unfortunately i got the message 2 hours late and the start time had already passed. i was very sad.

i guess the coasting charm must have exuded from me without even trying.

that's odd. i thought you are supposed to keep the upper body still as possible.

Got the wife a bike today. It's heavy. Has a rear rack. Will have baskets soon enough. I see farmers markets and picnics in our future. Waiting at a stop light, a couple walked by - the guy eyed up my bike, the girl eye****ed my wife's bike. They envied us.

I saw it last night. Thought it was great. A little confusing at first, but nothing that I would qualify as "too smart" (and especially something I wouldn't qualify as "to smart", like heckler just did:) ). Lots of action and suspense. Felt like my heart beat was decently raised just sitting there watching.

uh huh.

keep telling yourself that. i keep telling myself that people laugh at my shorts because they are jealous of my iron buns. it makes me feel better about myself.
