My favorite Tour moment ever: seeing the Radio Shack pinning up their numbers on the regular team jerseys per the TdF race officials.

By the way, they'll be teaching biz school students about this TdF 'Take off those unapproved bleeding heart cancer victim support jerseys' proclamation as a textbook example of profoundly heads up their ass negative PR for the next 25 years. Les Idiotes. Conversely, Livestrong gets points for knowing this would create this stupid dust-up for which they arguably got 10x more publicity.

I figured out why it costs Pcad so much to fly to Greece: the airline is charging him for two seats.

I disagree. The TdF officials get points for actually following the rules and not granting LA freedom to "bend" the rules and RS looses points for thinking they can do what they want and turn the days attention to them.

Guess what? We all know what cancer is and we all know it is a problem. The money that went to making those stupid pointless jerseys would have been better used to go to cancer research or to actually help someone who has cancer as opposed to ending up in the dirty laundry of the RS bus.

Livestrong's contribution isn't the money they raise for cancer research. That's a drop in the bucket. It's the inspiration they give millions of people fighting cancer. Hard to put a price on that.

But I suppose I can see the Tour official's point, you really can't let anyone pull that for any reason, or it would be a persistent problem in a highly exposed event like the Tour. So less dumb PR on the TdF's part than smart PR on Livestrong's.

patentcad 07-25-10 11:14 AM

The way the TdF organizers really show their stupidity in my view are some of the course layouts in the first week of the Tour. It's like they're trying to thin the peloton before they get to the mountains with 20-30 broken bones.

I fail to see how a bunch of idiots riding around in specially colored lycra uniforms gives anyone "inspiration" to fight cancer, but whatever.

That's rather evident.

heckler 07-25-10 11:32 AM

the problem is apparently he has done it before and they let him...the rules being upheld one year but not another is kinda hard to follow. Livestrong also timed it with commercials showing the jerseys today. It worked pretty well, but they had already taken them off when I saw the commercial so maybe they didn't anticipate the trouble the refs gave them.

I imagine riding at your pace is almost as relaxing as this:

If I could get the return on that amount of money in my business as they will, I would do it in a heartbeat and retire.

They fully anticipated that, it's making headlines the world over.

Mission accomplished.

Mavic's decision to remarket the R-Sys shows massive insight. Of course, keep the carbon spoke idea and just to make it more confidence-inspiring, keep the same name.

Someone at Mavic should be fired. Maybe two people.

Don't worry. It's 1295g.
