Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hey coasting,

What's the longest climb you've ever done? What's considered to be a hors catégorie climb in Blighty?

My motorcycle accident?

I was going through a green light heading straight. A Nissan Altima was making a right turn into the lane I was riding in. I had almost passed it, but as they pulled out they hit my back tire and pushed the bike out from underneath me. I fell off to the right and the bike tipped over onto me, and dragged me down the street a bit. I had on a helmet but also shorts and a thin long sleeved t-shirt. Luckily enough, the street the car was pulling out of was actually the access street into the ER for our hospital. A highway patrol officer who saw the whole thing happen carried me inside. The driver didn't stop, and was never found. I had road rash from shoulder to ankle, a broken hand, a punctured lung, broken ribs, and swelling around the base of my brain(stem).

I did one that was like 2.3 mile that averaged something like 7%. When I read what they do out in CA, I don't know how they do it.

I think you have to separate where the danger comes from.
