Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm going to get a muffin or a scone. Mwahahaha. That's how I award myself for weighing in at 146 this morning.

What part of VA are you in, and do you like it there, or would recommend a different part of VA? I like it there, but being in NY, anything south is better for me. I've only been there as a tourist, though I did get my appendix out there on one trip. I get to retire in 15 years, VA is one of the places we are considering.

Oh, and I can get to Jacksonville in 18, so you should be able to do better than 12.

I'm in Williamsburg. I've lived here my whole life. Here and Yorktown (which is 20 miles from williamsburg).
I love it here. I'm a grad student at the college of William and Mary (although older than most grad students).

it's gorgeous here. But for me, too hot on in summers. I want to move to NY!

Grad in? I do remember it being hot at times when we were down there in the summer. But NY can be hot and humid too. To me, NY seems about all the same. Yeah, we have farm land and the mountains. And the finger lakes are nice in some ways. I'm not into big cities, so NYC isn't a bonus. I like the ocean, not much of that here. And, VA is closer to other places.

I'm 3 hours from Washington D.C.
1.5 hours from Nags Head, N.C. (Outer banks).
1 hour from VA Beach.
1 hour from Richmond VA (Capital of VA).

I've never been to NYC. We're planning a trip to go there next March, in fact. For our annual vacation.

I'm a grad student in "Higher Education". Masters of Education - Higher Education Administration.

If you drive like a granny. We use to make a loop that went to King's Dominion in Doswell, then to VA beach, then back home via Skyline drive. I think it took us about 10 hours to get to VA beach, not far from you.

My in-laws are in Williamsburg. They eat out every meal. Like, EVERY meal... and, yet, they've never ventured beyond the national chains like Ruby Tues, Outback, Fridays, etc, etc, etc. Fuggin' depressing, 'specially when it seems that there are some nice little places about (oh, actually, there are a couple of non-chain eateries in the colonial area that they go to, but other than that...). Any restaurant recommendations when we visit next? I'd like to drag them out of their boring, comfortable shells. Oh, I ate at some Mexican place, a few visits back - I was pretty impressed, but that's not their bag, baby.

Oh sh it. There are HUNDREDS of great Restaurants in Wmbg! Why are they bothering withe chains???

The Trellis is a world renowned place to eat. And Barretts (sp?) is good for seafood. Just plain Bar-B-Q, Pierces BBQ is great.

The list goes on and on.
