Hubs are for wheels, bottom brackets are for cranks!

why does it matter that there are lots of systems. as long as you pick one and stick with it, what's the big deal?

You just got to worry about what YOUR set-up is, cause it wont work with another PITA!

thanks for sharing!
btw: post this on another thread and you'd get a different response. all in all, I find it interesting to get many viewpoints with certain "questions" Sometimes I find myself posting in counter-intuitive forums knowing that the viewers might be more informative or responsive because it has more viewers, etc
- road riding = high performance experts (cool)
- commuters = inventive and a bit whack! (fun)
- mechanics = incredibly knowledgeable - amazing knowledge base here (a lifesaver)
- 50+ = what we will be like if we stay healthy and keep riding. the wisest of the wise (comforting)
- classic and vintage = they won't ridicule you for having an old bike and they are very accepting of whatever you ride. amazing what restorations this group gets into - again a huge knowledge base (like the 50+ crowd meets mechanic-ville)
- electronics and gadgets = great place to find ways to spend your money (where I learned about MagicShine)
- I guess I can keep going on this tangent but since I have ADD from chewing windowsills as a kid I'm bored now

would it be accurate to say that square taper will disappear eventually and the most common will be external bearings?
I'm wondering if i should stock up on square BB for my older bike.

I've got a nice SKF BAS-600 square taper BB on the shelf awaiting my next recumbent bike. Snagged for $50 on Ebay, SKF claims 10,000 mile service intervals on it.
