Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Some topics do warrant being brought up from time to time. Technology changes so might the opinions and insights.

Maybe so, but to do that you may never be able to ride again. You will have to be attached to your PC (or Mac.). I feel like a lout on there with only 4500 or so posts.

How fast do you need to be to race?
What's better: weight or aero?
Is rotational mass real?

I think this is the funniest thread I've seen in a while!

I'm going to start giving people stink eye when they comment on the weather from now on, too. It's so been done. And haven't they looked out the window recently?

Ditto that.

Now, which bike should I buy?

I've always thought that they should write some kind of script so that the first two posts of any new thread will automatically generate. The first will be some a-hole that says "Do a search," "Google is your friend," or the classic link to the search page." The second post will be the omnipresent doosh that calls the OP a troll. Or posts that picture of a the "baby troll."

So an example post could be like this:

1. I am new to cycling, but am the brother in law of a famous Tour de France winner. Should I rely on him for advice?

2. (auto-generated) Learn how to use the search function, dip****.

3. (auto-generated) Don't feed the trolls. This question has been asked a thousand times.

Then the discussion could begin once these inevitabilities are out of the way. And the post count of some people would drastically level off, because they would have nothing left to add.

Should I buy deep dish carbons if I don't race?
Why should I race if everyone else is on a $5000 Cervelo?

I love this place.

Post what you want, when you want, and how you want. If it's a repeat, so what. If you don't want to read it, don't. I don't have time to research past posts. Nothing more aggravating than you "bozo the clown types", who don't have a life telling someone, "TO RESEARCH" I aint spell checkn, aint researchn aint doin non e of it..

I think we should give greater credence to those with a lower post count and those that have been a BF member for a shorter amount of time, because this place undoubtedly makes you more stupid the more involved you get and the longer you have been here.

I've notice that too, but if you simple paste your search terms into Google, the first three results are usually archived threads in this very forum.
I don't even bother using this site's search function anymore.

This. Sometimes I have trouble locating threads even when I know which one I'm looking for.
