I was warned
I must be crazy,I have always wanted a pair of look keos.Lusted after them I have, but I told myself I have ultegra don't need new pedal's.
Then I saw the new keo max2 pedals in a shop.In a moment of madness I bought them. This was crazy as my ultegra are only a year old and still have the original cleat's.
Anyway I could not wait to use them. The weather was ok a little cold but I was curious how they would perform.
First impressions, quite like my ultegra though not as wide.I found them to have a vague feeling I was clipped in but it didn't feel as secure that's ok just a little different.Much lighter pedal though And you would notice this.I have heard about the look squeak, but on thought this happened after the cleats were worn.Well mine squeaked on my first go,this is very disappointing.
Its not so loud but it did surprise me,honestly I think the new ceo is a fine pedal. Its light it has a wide platform but the squeak and my cleats are nearly worn out after only a few short spins.
I am now going back to my ultegra ,ok they are heavier but a wider platform much much longer cleat life and no fu*king squeaking. I was warned about this from people on this very site. Now I feel like a dork and it's my own fault.
Shimano pedals are IMO better for the regular guy.Much better cleat life no squeaking I think they will also last much longer.Be careful what you wish for,I know it's only a pedal but it's so so disappointing cleat's shot in less than a month!

Something is wrong here.
I have the same pedals and the cleats lasted the whole season (about 4600 miles).
They don't squeak. Maybe there was an issue with the placement of the cleats?

What the heII were you doing with your cleats?? Draggin them across the road??
My wife has been riding Keos since they came out and she has never had an issue with cleats lasting close to a season (8000-10000kms). The cleats look beat-up and such, but they still work fine...
Also, no squeaks from her's until the cleats were on their last legs...

Sounds like an expensive pointless "upgrade." You are not the first to do this.

I put roughly 8,000 miles on a set of Keo's before there was too much play in the bearings for my comfort. I'd rather get speedplays over LOOK pedals.
I love my Ultegras.

I agree with gluteus. I've been riding Deltas seems like from the late '80s with I truly don't know how many miles. Started with the black pedals cuz that's all that was available. Been through about 9 to 12 cleat sets I would guess. Had a squeak with a new pedal set around '02 that went away on it's own, I think. I don't remember if the squeak was with a new cleat set or a used one. If I had to guess I'd say I got 5 to 7 thousand miles on a cleat before I would replace it. Think I had one snap the front lip as I was walking but it was worn out at that point.
Got some KEOs about 3,000 miles ago and no problems.
Now for some new shoes....

My keo pedals squeak,I don't know why but trust me they do.I have read some where keo cleats must be kept very clean. There was a bit of mud on them and today I cleaned them.I will have to wait for the weather to clear before I will know if it worked.
This never happened on my ultegra's may be I am nit picking.I never expected this to happen so soon,I 'll give the pedals a month see how it goes.I was so annoyed when i wrote this, now I am calm.

I have Keo's on two bikes, Keo 2's on one bike. I like the larger platform and metal plate on the 2's. All of them have squeaked at one point or another, but never for an extended period of time. Maybe a few miles here or here. I have taken candle wax and rubbed a bit of that on the cleat and the pedal. I've also had the cleats/pedals for years on one bike and hey are fine, maybe six years and I have no idea how many miles, but a good amount.
I like Keos, but haven't tried Ultegras (just the double sided MTB ones for commuting)

I have had best luck with the 4.5 float grey cleats. They dont have the rubber bits on them and seem to last the better part of a year before the Keo squeek starts.

Sure they are.
When you return to work tomorrow at 1 Holland Drive in Irvine is everyone going to give you a high five for this post.
I've used LOOK for 23 years and never had a squeek. 3 different PP series, and now Keo Carbon with my wife on the same. That being said, Shimano does make fine pedals as well.
Although, this kid also complained his cleats wore out too fast. maybe there's a connection.
