Hey PCrap,
Save the box because I think you will be sending it back cuz that is the trainer I have used for the past 12 year. I am on my 2nd one and it gives a killer workout. Kurt Kinetic's comparable version feels same but people swear it is better, but they are based on same design (ie. fluid). So now that you know I endorse the Cyclops Fluid, I am sure you will hate it. LOL. I may be buying a Scott too.

I would also recommend the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine. I have used one for the past three years without any issue. As mentioned above the "road feel" is realistic but the Kurt is relatively silent and the build quality is unsurpassed. I recently was able to test the new Cycleops JetFluid Pro and was convinced the Kurt is the better trainer. First the Cycleops does not have a more realistic "road feel" than the Kurt. Second it is extremely noisy when compared to the Kurt. Third even though Cycleops redesigned the mounting mechanism the clearance is rather tight so mounting a bike can get a little annoying. Finally I found the mechanism used to tighten the resistance unit to the wheel was somewhat inconsistent.

That is half true. I've done some scubbing to remove lipstick. Your knowledge of cycling is about as deep as a puddle.

I bought the cycleops fluid 2 (first gen w/knob) based off of how quiet everybody says it is. I think people exaggerate the relative quietness of trainers. This one might be "quiet" in comparison to some other type of trainer that sounds like a bullhorn, but it is does not meet the definition of quiet by a long shot. The first time I got on it sounded like a freight train was approaching. Pads and towels under the thing helped a little bit (hardwood floors). I think that's just the way it is.
In short: Trainers are stupid and I hate them and I hate you and so do trainers.

I have the Kurt Kinetic fluid trainer. The resistance it provides, subjectively, does feel like a good faith attempt at simulating actual riding resistance. It makes some noise, but it's not as loud as a freight train.
The resistance actually feels like it's a little more than what I'd get in the same gear on the road, but the way it increases with speed is pretty realistic. I have a cheap rubbery mat thing that I put under mine that seemed to make it a bit quieter.

I have a CycleOps JetFluid Pro as well, bought last summer for the rainy days and the inevitable winter days. In retrospect I wish I would have gone with the SuperMagneto Pro so I could adjust the resistance, as I think it's significantly different feeling @ 21mph than my bike is on the open road. At least it's a more challenging workout, it would be unfortunate if it erred on the "too easy" side.

This will only be remotely possible if you are a Cat 2 or a Cat 3 on the way up.
Otherwise, maybe not. Plus you will have to contend with the humiliating presence of a guy old enough to be your Dad sucking your pathetic wheel all day long.

My rubber mat also does a good job absorbing vibration and noise. Its the tire that also gives off noise. It's a great workout if you push for at least an hour. Don't think you need more than that to maintain fitness if you push hard within that hour. I hear people staying on trainer for 2+ hours which is unnecessary. I agree with these guys.

Hey Pcad,
You might as well just hang it up after today.
(1) A trainer?
(2) No response for slothlite's smackdown.
(3) waterrockets is kicking your butt with a new question/answer thread.
Head on over to AppleForums for pleasant iPad chatter.

Don't you have some lame Vol sporting event to watch on Gomer TV?

they should ask you. If you want to know what cycling gear is best, ask me.
