Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Think Stoplights Are Bad? Behold, The Vortex!

It doesn't look too bicycle-friendly.

ah... I know that game... City Life

the roads you can make are interesting, but there's just no depth to it.

roundabouts are a terrible road design for cyclists. my near misses tend to happen at these death traps. we have a high proportionof roundabouts at junctions. more than lights.

Go help you if you want to drive to the sporting event. Probably have to take a taxi from the parking lot.

I stole this from the comments. I can't really add more.

There are hardly any roundabouts here. The only ones I've ridden through are on low traffic roads (intersections near newly-constructed exburban subdivisions).

This vortex looks much worse because you have to migrate from outer to inner lanes.

here is an example of a typical roundabout I risk my life at. local roads, fast roads and motorway (freeway) all coming together. With heavy volume it is terrifying. the fast roads bring in speeding cars which will cut you up at the exit you are trying to leave by.

all this happens just when i am desperately trying to clip in because without clipping in i can't get the acceleration fast enough to reach my exit before another car charges in at 60 mph and cause me to leave a brown stain on the road.

there are a few roundabouts where I live.

no one goes around them the correct way unless there were signs placed on the island, telling you which way to go.

what doesn't make sense, well, I guess it makes sense because no one has a clue on how to navigate them, is that all four entrances to the roundabout have stop signs.

Where I live people can't even grasp the concept of a 4 way stop, a roundabout would be death incarnate.

X2 What were they thinking!! They are awful even in a car. We have Three on freeway off ramps and they are disasters waiting to happen.

roundabouts are safer actually.. it just appears you 'tards don't know how to use them. In which case yes, they are dangerous.

"It eliminates the trouble of entering motorists fighting exiting motorists for position, and vice versa."

Good luck with that, especially when everyone is driving to the SPORT DOME from all directions to watch the gladiators fight.

unfortunately safety is not about our own driving but how other tards drive. there are plenty of tards on roundabouts.

Nobody has answered my question about the SPORT DOME.

I mean, am I the only one who notices that it occupies practically a quarter of the town's land area? They are making some super roundabout for some SPORT DOME? What a waste...

totally accurate... haha!

It should be noted that such tards would be running the lights here anyways.

The town I grew up in put in a roundabout when I was in highschool. It would have worked great except they made it a law that there could only be one car in it at a time. Kinda defeats the purpose.

Plenty of traffic circles around here. I like them but so few people know how to use the.

I don't care as much for them when I'm on my bike.
