If you're the type of person that would derive any degree of "fun" from having red shoes then go for it. Personally, I'm into basic black.

I like bright colored shoes. Mine are yellow and I've found that drivers notice me sooner and give me more room on the road. Got these almost brand new from a friend sponsored by Mavic for less than 1/3 retail price:

I have a pair S-Works BG shoes that I got for a song because they "team issue" for some team with orange as its primary team color. They are safety cone orange, but are the lightest, best ventilated, most comfortable shoes I have ever had. Even if I dress like Darth Vader , there is no stealth possible wearing those shoes...

Hi, I've been looking around for a while now to get a new pair of road shoes. I currently have a set of Louis Garneau with the carbon sole and ratchet. They're... ok, but I'm looking for an upgrade. I'm pretty much settled on either the SIDI ergo 2 lights or the S works bg ones. The question I have is if I got the SIDI ones I'd go for the "red vernice" colour which is quite loud... would I officially be a wanker if I wore these shoes?
Route 1: who gives a flying squirrels nutsack what anybody thinks? Wear what you want, ride what you want, as slow or fast as you want to.
Route 2: you care what people think. Ok, given this premise then I would say that the loudness of the clothing one can acceptably wear is proportional to the "riding cred" one possesses; where riding cred can be: A. I am fast, B. I was fast but now I'm much older than you, punk, C. I've never really been fast but I've worn through so many 11T cogs that I use them to decorate the Christmas tree, or D. Nah, screw it, I'm going back to Route 1.

All the cool kids are wearing the red vernice, which is perhaps why Sidi discontinued them.

It was last month, QJack. Despite Palm Springs' *%$^# redlight district, we finished in less than 5 hours.
The red Sidis actually aren't so good for dancing in; maybe I should take off the cleats...
OP: The only person who's ridiculed me over my shiny red shoes so far has been my father, (but he makes Archie Bunker look like Richard Simmons, so F 'im. )
Just practice your Krusty-the-Clown impression and you're in there... Hey-Hey Kids! (mooo-hooo-hooo-hahahaha)

The thing about being flamboyant is, in my experience, which may be worth zip, is it kinda puts more pressure on you to perform. It says, "Look at me." If you are fast, good. If you are slow, people think you should spend less money on your kit, and more time on your body getting it to perform.
I'm not passing judgment, but what I am saying is, if i were in your position, I would earn those flashy shoes. If they were available at a terrific price, relative to black, maybe I would do it. And then I would really push my workouts. Maybe go with a red outfit (top, shorts, shoes, helmet, gloves, SRAM) just to be color-coordinated.
