Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Traditional geometry carbon frame suggestions, please!

I prefer traditional geometry and am looking for a frame with a top tube that is exactly level with the ground or slightly upward sloping. Most of the frames I have come across seem to be slightly downward sloping. I currently ride a 58cm Specialized Tarmac which fits me well, but I feel much more natural on bikes with traditional geometry. I would very much appreciate your suggestions. Thanks!

You realize that it doesn't actually affect the geometry, right?

Yeah I realize that, sorry I didn't clarify why I felt better on traditional. it's the visual aspect for me. I like to look down and see a level tube. Downward sloping just doesn't look right to me and that gives me an less natural feeling on the bike.

Thanks Al, lugged carbon was all I was aware of too, such as Calfee and Colnago, and they are beautiful, time proven frames, of course. I'm just curious as to what other options are on the market.

Calfee. There is a 58 on eBay right now. You can transfer the warranty on a used Calfee which is something I haven't seen any other bike frame builders do.

Here is an Ebay auction

Ridley makes some cross frames from carbon fiber that have straight top tubes.

This top tube looks pretty level to me...

Actually, it looks like most of the Felts, with the exception of the Z-Series, are pretty horizontal.

Argon 18 frames are pretty close to level, I think.

I agree with you on the looks. But one quick thing to note is that "compact" geometries (ie. sloping top tubes) actually lower the center of gravity of the frame, so it does affect the handling of the bike (beyond the usual things like being stiffer and slightly lighter)...
