Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Having only ridden 3-4 times in the past month, this ride whooped my butt. The last 2 miles into the park was brutal. Constant 8-15% grade.

Just found this and so am attaching my Saturday ride. D2R2. Fun ride. Off the bike currently, though because my ulnar nerve doth protest all that vibration from the dirt roads:

Here's mine from this wknd, and incidentally with similar route distance and elevation profile: https://connect.garmin.com/activity/110205508 . You were faster/quicker than me overall, but my average/max heart rates are about right for me. I've never exceeded my max heart rate, so this is an eyeopener....I'm not HTFU enough? (Note: I lost the GPS signal at about mile 17 so I didn't actually ride on the water!) BTW, I'm 46.

You cannot exceed your max heart rate. You can discover that your max heart rate is higher than you previously believed.

Yes, I know that...; and the oft-used 220-age and similar formulae are "rule of thumb" gauges. Is there a way to adjust that on the Garmin though?

yes there is, its in your settings on your device. you can set it to alarm you at certain HR numbers you set yourself.

Actually I can, but that's because according to docs I don't really have a max hr. Doesn't seem to have a ceiling, but a point where I'm just no longer conscious. Now I wear a HR whenever I will be exercising and use 205 as an in-place max HR.

Took the day off for long ride. Just was one of those days I felt great and just keep riding. End up with my fastest century and did it on no rest. I am runner and ran pretty hard Monday thru Thursday but thought I would do ok today. I did not even really eat up a storm the night before, had a Jack's Pizza and salad, did the whole ride on no breakfast or food. I drank 60 onces of crystal light and then 64 onces of gatrode light had only 160 calories for the ride.

I feel just great was spinning the cranks all the way to end and this was not flat there were some good hills the especially in the middle. I am just really pleased and being a solo rider I have nobody to share the joy.
