Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

He is the man from the movie "Friday the 13th". He was killed at Camp Crystal Lake and he is not very happy about it.

Went out for a ride with the club today. Did the "Orange" level ride since I am doing the Mount Wilson New Year's day ride tomorrow.
Accidentally turned off my GPS while riding so the ride is in two parts/

Part 1:https://app.strava.com/rides/2992163
Part 2:https://app.strava.com/rides/2995335

Rode back home from the start:

https://app.strava.com/activities/2996440#

Can't wait for tomorrow! Hopefully I won't get dropped too bad.

Good last ride of the year, except for the pinch flat coming down the mountain at 40 mph....that was a bit unnerving for a couple seconds. No worries though. One more ride tomorrow to finish off my highest volume week (mileage, time, and elevation-wise) ever.

Technically it was a workout, not a ride, but I warmed up for 1/2 hour at a moderate heart rate, then knocked out about 55 minutes watching you-know-who's road-riding vids (whoa, his username's censored now? No, not Lord Voldemort, the other guy ):

https://connect.garmin.com/activity/137886035

Average HR was edging up as I went, flattening off around 92%-94% of maximum for the last half of the session. The bike I was using is 9-speed, and unfortunately I ended up among the 2-tooth jumps on the cassette, so I didn't want to drop a gear or I'd have to bring the cadence up into the 115-120 range, which is beyond what I can spin smoothly.

Can't believe it, rode in shorts on New Years day. It did get pretty windy though, 40 - 45 mph gusts.

Anyway, nice easy ride with a few members of the local club. https://app.strava.com/activities/3021791

New Year's day ride

https://connect.garmin.com/activity/138075580

This winter has been really mild. We've had one snowstorm, in October, and nothing since then.

New Year's Day Mount Wilson Ride: https://app.strava.com/rides/3024397

Had fun! But didn't make it to the top Only had 5 more miles to go! But I guess not too bad for a 16 year old kid.

You wouldn't have happened to stop by the Hill Street Cafe with a bunch of guys from Bicycle John's & SFVBC?

OK cool. There were some Cannondales out there which made me think of you plus the 12 guys you rode with (on your Strava results).

Tried my hand at some pseudo cyclocross today. We started at a park that has some mountain bike trails, rode to another park with mtn bike trails, ran the trails, then rode around town, mostly paved, some gravel, and ended up at the starting point form some additional dirt track fun. Found out I'm really terrible at mountain biking - especially on my road bike.

Haven't posted a ride here ever...

Most recent non-commute ride -- Recovery Ride -- South Bay Dumbarton Bridge Lap: https://app.strava.com/rides/2880601

Legs hurt from the previous day's climb into Muir woods with some Rapha SF guys so I took it a bit easy, barely any cars on the road and the temps were nice, even if it was a little windy. I didn't see a single cyclist on the road the entire time.

45 miles and some climbing. Our club has a challenge to ride 25 local climbs throughout the year. I did 7 of them today.
