Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

First outdoor ride in awhile. Took my Surly cross check to let it eat all the salt. Gave it a nice wash when I got back. I miss my ~15lbs bike lol

Didn't ride all week because I didn't have a working rear wheel, so I borrowed one.
Horrible ride, pushed hard up Rockstore, but still got a bad time
Starting getting cramps at the bottom of Latigo, so I slowly crawled up.
Oh well I guess I'll see what I can do tomorrow.

42 miles 5100ft elevation gain.

first ride of the year and first ride in over 4 weeks. I actually did about 36mi but forgot to push start on the garmin...fail. I usually do this trip with a 19avg...its easy to see how slow we get when we don't ride frequently, plus i stopped a lot for some cool pics which i posted in the Oddball thread

That's a pretty good area to ride....I lived on main post at Benning until August of this year, so that road around the airfield and south as my daily route, I really enjoyed it.

Had a nice ride today. I tried to take it a bit easy on the climbs but I'm still hurting.

Sunday - 52 miles - https://app.strava.com/rides/3192350

The parachute didn't open on the first pull, huh?

My ride today, minus the 51-minute ride to the start of this track: https://connect.garmin.com/activity/141677748 Both rides combined were about 6hr 20m, 56 miles, the majority of which was off-road XC riding. The trails were icy and we had a rider having an off day, so average speed was low. But hey, we're riding bikes, outdoors, in January.

Wow! Nice ride!
37.8 F Average temperature.

It was 42F here in the morning and my fingers were completely numb, I can't imagine riding in weather that cold.

Started my ride with the garmin set to my trainer bike. Screwed up when I changed bike settings!
Had to turn off the speed cadence sensor to get sensible numbers.

Rest of the ride.... had a huge tailwind the whole way but knee trouble meant I was just cruising along.
Could have easily sat on 35-40kph most of the way on a good day.

Well, it's mountain biking. The wind-chill factor is low due to the low speeds and sheltered trails, and the climbs warm you up, and in this case conditions were frozen-to-dry so we weren't getting wet either.

Had a great ride today. Temp in the upper 40's and I was able to ride in shorts. I am loving the Mad Alchemy warming embrocation cream. I don't know if the dog that bit me while I was riding today feels the same way about it. I imagine it tasted pretty crappy.

LSD ride today.

Keeping the HR in such a narrow band is hard work... especially with a tailwind.
