Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If I lived somewhere that had that much elevation I'd be riding with more elevation. But as it stands, I live in the flatwoods of Florida, and what we lack in hills we make up for with winds.

Did a group ride of the 70 mile option for the upcoming Auburn Century. Am unsure of how accurate Elevation Corrections are... going from 6K to nearly 7.2K seems a bit high. https://connect.garmin.com/activity/34983120

Is temp accurate?

Min Temperature: 48.2 °F
Max Temperature: 96.8 °F

The max temp I do not think is accurate. If it ever got to 97F I'd be sweating a LOT more. However for min temp I do think that is accurate. It was pretty friggen cold at the start of the day.

Yeah, looking at your chart there were two spikes where it literally jumped 30 degrees within 2 minutes. I doubt that.

It may have been. It was well into the upper 80s here on the coast.

Is possible. I think the spikes could be caused by me stopping and it heating up with the still air? /shrug. Temperature isn't something I look at. I am trying to bump up my average cadence but I seem to lose focus on that goal whenever I'm riding, hah.

This morning's before work solo workout. Garmin HR monitor was going crazy early on. Not sure why. Also, this is 3 laps on an 8.5 mile loop. I realize I need to get away from the default lap setting (1 mi.) and start using the laps feature (heck, all of the features) on my Edge 500 more fully.

I don't think you meant that as a put-down but yeah, I would get more elevation gain on my rides if it was available. Around here, 50 feet per mile is about what you get. Rollers aren't necessarily as easy as some people make them out to be but yeah, a good mountain rider would do much better on rollers than a good roller rider would do in the mountains. We are all at the mercy of our surroundings and I think we all make the best of what we've got.

Did your HR really spike up to 250 at one point during the downhill? Seems like a kind of odd time for it to spike like that and that is probably one of the highest HR's i've ever seen but who knows...

I am still taking it easy on the ride but feeling better after the ride. My fitness is not coming back easily. I guess old guys just take longer to recuperate.

No, that was jacket-flap on the descent, some combos of jersey/jacket mess up the signal on the HRM. I don't know how to fix the file

Here's a nice little 80 mile roller through Clay County Florida. I finished 5th at the final sprint with a three man break out in front, one guy blowing by me on the last down hill and the lone woman (who is extremely strong for any one) behind me did not challenge me when she could have easily passed me. Great ride, hope I have enough left for tomorrow.

https://connect.garmin.com/activity/35086694

Totals at a glance 03:38:29, 80.32 miles (plus 5.5 to the ride), 22.1 ave

Last weeks regular Tuesday Night Worlds.
2nd time I've done this ride - 2nd time I've been spit off the back.

Rode the annual Tour de Meers yesterday.
Had a blowout at 33mph - blew the tire off the rim!
