Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Feeling relatively normal finally, got out for the group ride. Couldn't push super-hard though, still having trouble with very deep breathing. Had to skip a few pulls

wtf, man? You're feeling not great and average over 19 mph for almost 90 miles and 4k feet of climbing!

Jesus.

No, I am not saying that is my max. The charts that I have seen say I should train below 140, when I cycle in the gym I put 30 as my age so that the bike sets a higher pulse target.

This is not the most appropriate thread for this discussion, but those charts with heart rates based on age are fairly meaningless. There is too much individual variation. The best thing to do is do some testing to determine your LTHR and calculate your training zones based on that.

That was a group ride sucking a lot of wheel.

Last week before my crash I did a faster solo ride

My opinion not only stands, but is emphasized.

My Friday morning ride on the first day in weeks the temp dropped below 70 degrees. I was wishing to maintain 20 mph the for 50 but I went down two roads that required I back track to avoid a very busy 2 lane highway.

I know when I broke my ribs it took a lot longer to get back to normal ridding than you, but then again I am old enough to be your papa. Great going.

The ride I did today was in my car to check out the century ride in the Tour De Safford in Arizona. It looks like a great ride, and I enjoyed and needed the day off.

It took a while when I broke my ribs... I don't think they are damaged this time just bruised a bit.

Anyway, I ended up doing the extra I was supposed to do after the ride this afternoon

well, a new baby in the house has made my regular riding schedule disappear like a case of diapers. nevertheless, got in a solid 2 hours today, and then took my 5.5 y/o daughter to see Buckwheat Zydecko at our local blues festival. laissez les bons temps roulez.

two back to back hill climbing, absolutely new, recon rides based on mapmyride.com's 'austin hill crunch'. i went running & swimming after the one on saturday (w/ 4500ft of elevation gain & some 15-18% grades)... so i'll work on the pace later now that it's somewhat familiar:

We did an organized ride yesterday. The Mon Valley Century. My little group did a slight deviation of the 50 mile loop. The normal 50 just stays by the river, and is pretty flat. We decided to add some climbing to our ride, and started at a different location. By doing this we were able to follow the 70 mile loop, and just end it somewhat short. Nice day, some good climbs, but mostly rolling.

Edit: We had to walk over one of the bridges. It was closed, and under construction. The state (PA) gave us permission to use it, but only by walking the bikes on the sidewalks.
