Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My first shot at interval training. Definitely have some improvements to make. Each interval was between 45-60 seconds on a very slight incline @ 6,100ft.

I did 6 of them this time, but will be working on improving my max speed and eventually start adding more intervals.

Now that one I know too well. Also, I sometimes forget to wait for the satellites to be synced up with the device.

That was a fairly easy pace that I could trivially do that all day. Zone 2/Endurance. My HR was a little out-of-whack from the effort, I think because my breating was still labored due to my bruised ribs.

I went a little a little harder and longer today, more like bottom of zone 3, similar HR, a touch higher, but much more in line with what I would expect for the effort

Intervals going up and back to Pepperdine on PCH. As with most days the trip up takes longer due to the head wind.

Today's ride didn't start out too well. I drove to Charleston, started my ride and 1/2 mile later I broke a spoke. Rode back to the truck, drove home, installed two new spokes, then drove back to Charleston. It went better the second time.

Just got back from the best ride since I started back up. The out and back ride is a 25.8 mile ride and the last time I rode it I did it in 112 minutes. Today I did it in 99 minutes and felt much better. It's nice to start seeing some improvement.

Here is the ride information. https://connect.garmin.com/activity/43391809

Almost more effort trying to get ready to ride than actually riding. Did better than I would have, I probably would have called it a night after the spoke. Nice little hill in that ride too.

The only other thing I had going on today was cutting some grass, and to be honest I wasn't in a hurry to do that so I figured I might as well fix the wheel and get my ride in. As for the climb I used to not mind it that much but now that I'm fat it sucks!

That makes four spokes I have had to replace in this wheel and I have only ridden it 225 miles. Saying that I'm not overly impressed with it would be an understatement. My powertap should be here in a week or two though.

Some days I am the hammer but today I was decidedly the nail. I just didn't have it for some reason. Maybe it was the intervals I did on my recovery ride yesterday. I know it was a dumb thing to do.
The garmin shut off for some reason mid ride? May have bumped the start stop button?

First dag of a training week in the French Alps.
I drove allmost half the night, so my legs didn't feal great. I did a little warmup, first some flat riding in the valley, followed bij a smaller col: le Col d'Onon. Felt better on the climb and got even to enthousiastic at some point (hr 185).
All in all a good first day!

It's official...I suck! On the climb today (South Park) I stopped three times to let my heart rate get back down a little. I used to climb this one with no problem. I did get to see 19% on the Garmin though.

I dont cycle that much at the moment, but I do go to the gym. When I use the heart rate monitor my pulse can get to 150, and I am 48 years old. I do push hard, but just wonder what other people do. Is it really bad to train so hard(for my age), or will it make me fitter?
My cycle today involved cycling 4 miles to collect my laptop, called at a small supermarket for a few things for dinner, and than back home; a total of around 9 miles.

The best thing you can do is contact your doctor and ask him. A max heart rate of 150 is very low so I would suggest getting a physical and go from there.
