Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What are the odds of having two flats in 65 miles. It could have easily been three. The first flat was a wire, (radial tire trash) I kept looking and dang if I didn't find another wire too. The second was right out in the hot Arizona sun at mid day. How fun. I am just glad I carry two tubes, and never less than 3 co2s. Well they can't all be great fun rides.

The hardest and longest ride I have ever done. It is called the Ramrod and is a 150 mile loop around Mr. Rainier in Washington State. Oh yeah, just under 10,000 feet of climbing. Time to collapse.....

I'd say the odds are pretty good. Last nites club ride, I had 3 flats. One in the parking lot before the ride, and 2 out on the road. Add to that, I had to use a boot on the the 3rd change (bad bead), and now have to replace the darn tire. Oh well, It was still a nice ride, thanks to the patience of my fellow club riders.

You can see the walk of shame back home and I never figured out what I ran over as I saw it bounce into a rain catch in the curb. I only suffered because I didn't get to ride in the evening and meet my 300 miles in 30 days challenge!

Changing this tubular, I decided to try out my Innovations CO2 (16 gram, threadless) and was immediately impressed. I was inflated to 125psi in less than five seconds. SWEET! I'm glad I bought more refills and more tubulars.

I swapped the rally for a Corsa CR.

Was visiting a friend for a couple days and took the bike along. Went out on a short solo ride when I found some time. Most likely moving to Denver in a couple weeks so not many flat rides in my future I hope.

It's Monsoon season in the Arizona desert. Got wet last two rides. I changed todays route as my planed route was lightning and thunder a plenty in that direction ( over Usery Pass) so I headed towards Tempe. I got wet anyway, but didn't come across any flooded washes so that was good. Had to take it a little slower, almost went down a few times, it gets slick out there in the rain.

Another ride, I'm still slow.
https://connect.garmin.com/activity/42564407

On aside note noticed how inconsistent the speed is on the 705 when not using a speed sensor? At one point I was going 30 something and the speed was showing 11 mph. Guess I'm going to have to buy the speed/cadence sensor after all.

large group ride where i managed an avg. of 90% max heart rate for the first 30min till i lost contact w/ the main group... nothing good happens @ the back... i was tired and expending too much energy trying to attach myself again and again. i hate the yo yo effect.

Wanted to do a solo non-stop 5-hour century today, but started to cramp and had to stop for drinks in the heat. Ended up doing about 5:01 (moving time) for 100 miles in the middle (excluding a few miles warmup & cooldown) with about a 5 minute stop in the middle.

umd, What's the deal with the lap times. They all seem to be an odd time/mileage. Just wondering.

I hit the lap button when I change roads or start/finish an interval. #2, #5, and #9 were intervals, of sorts. Note the average power relative to the other laps.

My workout was to do 5 hours. It's just that with the power I was supposed to do it at, I figured it would be over 100 miles. Unfortunately the stitch in my side prevented me from doing the last 2 intervals which cost me about 10W averaged over the final 2 hours.

^^^^ yeah, my plan will be a 100 miles with NO intervals. plus its the midwest so those mountain things are not an issue. i just enjoy the solo suffering, the solo effort, the 100 miles, and so on. i started my cycling "career" doing like a million centuries each summer. none so far this year. in fact, today i rode for 27 minutes. later.

I did the Miles of Smiles 100, on probably the hilliest route you can go in
Central Illinois and some crazy gravel in places that made for less than
ideal times. I had to ride 6 miles to the start and 6 miles home but the
tour took me 5:33, I was pretty close to 6 hours total riding. First time I
ever road in a group of cyclist it was really fun. We manage to spread out
pretty quick but I road the last 50 with a friend and we manage to bring the
last 19 miles in on a smooth road in 1 hour.

My second century and much hard that my first one with some serious climbs.
I think the gravel in places cost us at least 5-9 minutes I just hate it and
go really slow. I think tomorrows run will be really, really slow at least
this tames the desire for a Sunday ride.
