Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A little on the chilly side, with wind coming from the north.

Not much energy today. Too much sugar yesterday and staying up too late last night (no drinking--just too late).

New Year's Day club ride. Started with about 18, got down to a dozen or so at the end. Took two sprints, 2nd and 3rd in the others. Great to be out there in reasonable weather.

Wasn't planning on doing hill repeats today but I felt good and went with the flow.

Recorded my first roller ride and did not realize that I could produce that many watts without even trying. Funny thing is that I do not have a power meter [yet]. My Garmin does not lie, watch our for me on the road!

I survived my threshold test. My 20 minute average was only 283 watts with an average heart rate of 159. I believe the 30 degree weather might have hurt me some as far as my numbers go but it gives me a starting point at least.

Don't worry about the e-wang numbers right now. You have a baseline and a coach. If 2011 is going to be a base year, then they'll get your weight down and your FTP up. I hope it's not, and you wind up trying at least some mid season training races after a spring of hammerfest group rides.

Best of luck, LowCel. Your legs will come back.

2nd road ride in a week...woohoo. 3 rides in 3 days. Not a bad start to the year. After the cold spell we've had in the east this weekend was a nice break.

Got in a 50 mile ride today. Did the first 25 miles with a group of 8 and then was feeling good legs so I set forth solo for an additional 25 miles.

Just got my powermeter today. Did a 20 min test. I suck less than I anticipated.

https://connect.garmin.com/activity/61832892

3.89 W/kg, which I'm pretty happy with for this point in the year. I want to get it above 4.0 W/kg in the next month or two.

Very nice numbers, wish I was in the same ballpark.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Depending on how things go I may try to enter something sometime this year. Right now my "a-race" (I am completely aware it's not a race) is the ms150.

Thanks. I'm sure you'll be able to get there. You've lost quite a bit of weight and seem to be heading in the right direction.

So bored of it I went outside a few hours later:
https://connect.garmin.com/activity/61989083

110 BikeScore (TSS) for today, at 169 TSS for the week so far. On track for my goal of 400-500 for the week at this point in the year.

Did this today, planned on taking it really easy, but around 10 miles in I decided I felt really good and pushed it a bit.

You should upgrade to version 0.003. I hear the maps are much better.

It was windy, and my feet got cold. I need to figure out this whole cold feet thing out if I am going to keep riding outside...
