Quick Thumbs Up or Down: 60th Anniversary Paramount
I'm first in line to check out 1998 60th Anniversary Schwinn Paramount.
Here is their write up:
1998 Anniversary Edition Classic Schwinn Paramount. Good Condition. 56cm. Chris King Headset. Shimano Ultregra Components. Mavic Rims.
$450
If the fit is right it seems like a killer in deal. Talk me out of it??
Thanks.

Uhhh...how much? For $200, you got a steel. For $2,000, you may be able to do better. For $4,000, you're nuts.

Thanks for the response.
My understanding is it is built by Isaacs and friends of match cycles (Riv frames and some pretty nice customs). Is this incorrect?
Naturally, your comment about Chicago or Waterford remains.

In 1998, long after the 1992 bankruptcy, the new Schwinn ownership revived the Paramount name with bikes made by Match Cycles, owned by Tim Isaac. These are also world class bicycles built with Reynolds 853 tube sets, and most were actually made by Curt Goodrich, who went on to build fabulous custom frames for Rivendell.

I have the '00 Paramount. These are from Match Cycles / Tim Isaac. Based on the Waterfords I've seen while working at Schwinn shops in that era, and two that I owned (not to mention their current stuff), the quality is as good or better than Waterford's efforts.
Anyway, the main downsides to this generation of Paramount are: 1) they were built before the compact-crank era, so the FD braze-on location may not work well for compact, and 2) they use 1" forks, not 1-1/8", so your fork options are limited.

I've been considering selling this one (58cm) along with its original and carbon forks. Part of its downfall is that it's "too nice" to haul out onto wet roads and just ride it, if you know what I mean
