I liked it

tmass 05-16-10 07:40 AM

That was great! That's the type riding i do...just head out in the country and explore. I got a new camera with HD video.....I gotta rig something up and try for myself.

Actually , that looks like my Flip, too rectangular to get a steady shot with the high profile. Works a little better on the helmet.

This is the handlebar mount, some vibration at 30 mph.

Did you make that mount? or where did you purchase it??

SteelerHoo 05-17-10 07:22 AM

I raced, I crashed. Some road rash, but back on the bike Tuesday.

yak 05-17-10 07:38 AM

Still working on my mounting system for the road bikes, but here's a mtn bike video I shot last week at Wompatuck State Park. The ride was cut short when I imbedded a twig in my forearm and had to go to the ER.

What happened? Did someone just bump into each other causing a crash?

Ouch! Looked like someone on the far right clipped the barricade (or something right next to it) and set off a chain reaction. No bike damage I assume, since you didn't mention any? :)

the frame is ok, some cosmetic scratches. destroyed the rear Edge rim, but the tubular stayed on and is still inflated! :)

Best news is that the rear hub is fine. A replacement rim (and spokes) don't cost too much.

Sped up for time. If you're bored just jump halfway through :D

Bean_YWG 05-18-10 07:46 AM

^ Damn... that makes me want to go ride.. but I have to go to work.

dolophonic 05-18-10 11:40 AM

Edge rim = costly!

after speaking to folks, it was foolish and avoidable.

The wheel pit is on the right side, just past the start/finish. the officials made the poor decision to let some riders back into the race before the field passed.

the guys on the right were going 30+mph and ran into the back of guys re-entering the race attempting to accelerate to pack speed. good luck either trying to accelerate up to race speed or trying to stop in time to avoid hitting those guys in that situation...

bad pit placement. bad idea to release riders in front of a field riding curb-to-curb.

cyclocommuter 05-19-10 10:34 AM

Another video showing a crit crash. Crashes on this race (there were many) apparently caused by someone deliberately throwing tacks on the road... sick:

JimF22003 05-20-10 01:04 AM

They actually showed the Leonardtown race crash on the NBC Nightly News last night. If it bleeds it leads.

That doesn't seem like a very smart thing for the officials to do. I've always wondered what happens if you damage your bike in a race. Do you just have to suck it up and pay for it yourself... Or can you blame fault to people?

Some guy posted this video in the local bike forums and were talking about it. Apparently there's a guy near Knoxville that puts gravels on roads commonly used by cyclists just to "mess with them." He also posts about it on our local news website.

There is a big difference between a crash in a race and somebody being hit by a car.

However, I really would prefer that this thread be videos by or of the poster.

Paceline on the freeway at 30mph the other day. Taking a pull fried me and I got dropped when I rotated off.

Sucky. Looks like you could have maybe gotten back on if you'd timed your jump onto the back a bit better but maybe not even then. I imagine you were totally cooked. I get home from my trip tomorrow night and my VholdR ContourHD and helmet mount should be there waiting for me. Pretty stoked to start making some vids. I blame this thread for my loss of a couple hundred dollars. Thanks umd.

Hmmm, so this is my first video with the cam. For some reason I think the video editing software didn't keep the video in 720P or something...I dunno. I gotta keep experimenting with it. Need a larger video card too.

This video is of my group ride from last night. I have hardly ridden at all the past 3 weeks because I've been out of town for work. I have definitely lost a little fitness from it. The ride is 24 miles and a lot of fast guys showed up for it. I got dropped on this ride with about 2 miles to go but the memory card ran out before that happened. Edited the video last night while I was drunk but it seems to have worked out alright. Anyway, here ya go:

Oh, and here's the Garmin Connect data to go with the ride: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/34759412

For those of you with helmet mounted cams, did you notice a little neck discomfort at first? I know the cameras don't weigh much, but my neck got pretty tired after the first hour of wearing it. Had my friend ride with it on his helmet yesterday and he said his neck was getting tired too. Am I just weak or is this one of those things that happens and you get used to it after a few rides?

I don't even notice the weight. Mine only about the difference between a cheap helmet vs. an expensive one. It just means I have a really expensive helmet that weighs like a cheap one :p
