That's how recumbent riders are. I liked the video though.

Thanks! I also ride road, fixed gear and tandem. Normally I ride my bent one-handed and use my other hand as a moving camera boom. That's too dangerous on a road bike but easy when laid back. I'm in mediocre physical shape and need the aero advantage to keep up a reasonable pace riding solo on the flats. Group riding is strictly road bike and pace lines. In case you haven't seen my ATOC stage 6 video shot from the air: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fohtznktp5M

I have a bad habit of pointing out the oblivious. I meant the obvious. :innocent:

Thanks. Yes, that's me. I've built up 372 hours of flying time in the past 22 months and have developed the skills needed to pull this sort of flying off. Now it's time to get back on the bikes and back off the flying. The hang gliding I do is pretty aggressive and is 10X more expensive and dangerous than equivalent bicycling. I quit the sport for 28 years then came back in 2008 and made up for the lost time. I flew 4-3/4 hours yesterday and got a pretty good workout: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-sBHdpPQVw There are a lot of videos on that youtube account.

Nice video, loved the interviews! At 4:15 you had me yelling "close the gap! DON'T LOSE THAT WHEEL!". I have to really make an effort to keep true to recovery rides....

I really am enjoying this thread and wish the moderators would make it sticky!

One thing I would like some help with is the format the data needs to be in to import into Dashware or other software. A tutorial would be nice along with the proper filter settings for import. I have some videos that I would like to add that really need data embedded in order to make them more interesting and add context.

PS - Mods, make this a sticky!!!

I use a home brewed app but the process to feed it info is most likely the same as Dashware. Here are more or less the steps I take to generate a ride video with telemetry info:

1. Export Garmin's data into a TCX file.
2. Import TCX in Excel and create a Comma Delimited File off it (CSV). App can also be made to read the TCX file directly without this intermediate process.
3. Map the columns that contain telemetry info (time, latitude, longitude, power, heart rate, etc.) in this CSV (or directly off the TCX file if the app has this feature) to your telemetry video generator software.
4. Set sync points in the video to those in the telemetry data.
5. Generate telemetry video.
6. Overlay the telemetry video with the ride video and make sure the ride and telemetry videos are more or less in sync.

Hacked in an elevation map feature to my video overlay app. It shows elevation info when the ride gets to the rollers (3 minutes into the video):

Saranac Lake Criterium - Cat 5 race

Got a replacement Vholdr because I was having problems with the unit shutting off or the files getting corrupted due to vibration. The new unit worked well @ yesterday's race. A few problems with the editing due to user error.

umd 06-14-10 08:45 AM

You sat on the front way too long. Either stop pedaling or attack.

Grumpy McTrumpy 06-14-10 09:01 AM

the masters race was strung out single file by turn one. no coasting, no soft pedal.

jabbahop 06-14-10 09:12 AM

you are right umd - that is why I am a 5 (this was my 3rd official race) - learning something new every race. At least this time I remembered to look at the number of laps left! In hindsight I should have been trying to stick to Colin's wheel since he was clearly the strongest.

I know this isn't a RR or Crit, but it was shot last night at a TT. I'm on the red Trek TTX. The other 2 guys are my teammates.

Cool video. The last guys seem to be all over the place and can't hold a line though :(

Grumpy McTrumpy 06-17-10 10:46 AM

dunno about NJ/NYC but last night we had 20mph winds and big gusts here.

I challenge to you ride that on a TT bike without some of that happening.

It was supposed to t-storm like hell out there, but we went anyway. The worst case scenario, was that we would drive out there and the race be canceled. The night ended up being fantastic. No rain, no storms, just clouds. The only thing was a slight headwind, but nothing terrible.

Grumpy McTrumpy 06-17-10 11:06 AM

then I guess that guy was on the limit and couldn't control his bike so well anymore. been there. done that.
