Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My buddy used to ride up a steep hill onto the campus we went to, one hand on his 10 speed's handlebars, the other smoking a cig. I don't think we were viewing it as exercise though, just transportation.

Saw a chap cycling not too far from where I live using a Respro mask. Fair enough, it's London, he's a commuter; I use a Respro mask to commute.

However, he proceeded to stop on the bridge, pull the mask down and whip a cigarette out of his jersey pocket. Classic.

I'm an older guy Copperhump and I would give my left nut for a smoke after a ride.
I quit 20 yrs ago.

You sound like an ******* when you judge other peoples misfortune/habits.

I've been on plenty of rides, fast ones too, where the riders stop to pass a bowl around a couples times. Maybe the guy was just riding for pleasure, no workout intended.

I smoked for about a year, it stopped being enjoyable, so I quit. Sorry if it's elitist to think smoking while exercising is dumb. And if he was commuting somewhere, I think he was lost because where he was at in the park is not a shortcut to anywhere....except that part of the park. I agree that we all look dumb in tights though. I found the whole exchange pretty funny but I think the smoking part is just plain stupid. I won't apologize for that. Jeez, if the guy was over there humping a goat and we made fun of him, there would still be somebody on here calling me elitist. That's why I love good old BF.
