bike insurance?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

bike insurance?

Does such thing exist? I think it would be a pretty good idea to have insurance to pay for a bike (especially carbon) that you might wreck.

Yea: Buy a bike you can afford to replace. Then you can self-insure.

Not aware of any crash insurance. I've heard of some companies offering theft insurance.

Home owner's insurance (or renter's insurance) will cover your bike if stolen, crashed, etc.

Stolen yes but crashed??? Maybe if you had it ontop of your car and drove into the garage.

+1 on buying a frame you can replace, most of your components will survive a crash. GL

My homeowners' coverage does cover damage incurred in a crash, but only if it's not in a race.

Check the insurance offered by your local automobile association. I had my bicycle insured with Canadian Automobile Association as an extra item on my household content insurance.

if you're worried about this, your best bet is to buy a bike who's manufacturer offers a decent crash replacement policy, and go from there.

i can't substantiate this, but i dont think homeowners or renters insurance is going to cover a crashed bicycle, why would they?

Do not assume this.
I contacted my Home Ins comapny to confirm, and was told my bike was not covered for theft or crash, and a policy rider to add it in was not available. I am looking for another company, but was very shocked at their response. I wonder if the value made them state this, which may not be the norm?

This.

Never insure against a risk you can afford to absorb.

And if you can't afford to absorb a loss of a bike you spent to great a percentage of your resources on a bike.
