Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Isaacs were great. They are now out of business. They had a small issue with some steerers/stems/headsets and issued a recall - unlike Trek - and their insurance after covering the recall dropped them and they were not able to secure new insurance. Now defunct. I do believe I have seen some of their design elements on other rigs though....

Somec- top shelf Italian framesets, custom carbon geometry available, paint jobs of the highest order.
Battaglin- medium+ grade framests, now offering carbon, not super light, but great for entry level racing.

true, but as soon as he gets something totally obscure and awesome, some hipster will tell him that he sees them all the time, and he'll feel like a corporate drone

Performance is now carrying Focus. I saw a couple of their bikes in one of their stores. Not bad.. Specced nicely for the price.

Sampson and they "make" their own components as well.

I have a Masi 3VC which I've only seen 1 in the past 5 years.

Huh, didn't know that Isaac was gone. Somebody in town here has one, I see it on the road from time to time. Nice looking bike.

Can't believe you left out Denali.

Now, back to the OP and his/her desire not to be a corporate drone: since I am the poster accusing of p***** in someone's cornflakes, or whatever it was I did, I am still curious about the motivation and logic of this thread.

If you are truly interested in acquiring a bike that no one has ever heard of, why would you ask people what are *other* brands they have heard of? By definition, isn't any response to this thread likely to yield only those bicycles that people have heard of, and thus defeat the purpose of this thread?

If someone on BF has heard of a bike, I'd say it's already failed the test.

The only real solution is to enroll here:

https://www.bikeschool.com/frame.htm

...and make your own frame.

Saw a bunch of Focuses (Foci?) in Italy. And the only Bianchis I saw were Dutch-style city bikes. It blew my mind!!!!!
