Saddle sore question...

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Saddle sore question...

I've been riding on the same saddle for 2 years now (Selle Italia SLK) and haven't had any problems until now. Lately over the past few weeks I've had pain on my left sit bone with a 4" inch long mark on it, where the saddle presses against.

Has anyone else had a sudden onset of soreness even though the saddle and shorts haven't changed?

Does high humidity and heat increase the probelem? Any tips of preventing/curing the soreness? Thanks!

Same happened to me just last week. I have no idea why, and I've had the same shorts/saddle as before. I think I'll use some cream/lotion next ride and see how it goes. I'm also buying some better shorts.

I got saddle sores because of poor hygiene. I would ride, change my clothes in the car, go to work, and not take a shower until evening. I've since changed my routine.

- just got back from a ride a few hours ago, 30mi before a flat ended my ride, but no saddle sore symptoms. I just used some lotion instead of chamois cream before heading out and it seemed to keep everything moving smoothly.

Have you ever used Body Glide roll on. It does a fine job for me. One other thing is a wrinkle in your shorts could be the culprit. How tight are they? I have a pair that I have to watch and be careful that the legs are pulled down as the leg grippers are about gone and they like to move up and walla, a wrinkle. Come to think of it I think I have had them long enough. Out they go. Good luck

I had a sudden onset of soreness, was using a bontrager inform rl for about 6 months and was fine, but as my weight decressed, and i dont have much in the back padding even when i'm heavy,it just started killing me,did a 62 mile ride and was afraid of my bike, had to change that saddle.

New one has slightly more padding and is working great.

I'm happy you found some relief. I've been trying some Bag Balm to see if that helps. Everyone seems to like it.

I was thinking the same thing but the problem occurs no matter which shorts I wear. My shorts are tight but, like you said it could be a small wrinkle that I don't notice.

I have a feeling the saddle may be the culprit. I only bought it 2 years ago, and it worked great up until now. I'm not looking forward to the breaking in period with existing soreness.

This may be the culprit. I've also developed a sore on my normal saddle/shorts setup. I took a closer inspection of the saddle and noticed it's sagging to down to the right (the same side i've developed the problem).

Is this a good enough reason to get a new saddle? It's only about a year old, and probably has less than 3000 miles on it

High humidity can cause all sorts of nifty friction.

in regards to the wrinkle - just make sure you check your shorts while riding, as moving on the bike can rearrange things.
