Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not really. But I'm just saying I didn't not get them because I was worried about crashing them again.

You're "sure" an aluminum soloist wouldn't have broken? Did you have a brand new aluminum, super-lightweight Aluminum soloist that you immediately dropped with the exact same force and exact same position? Did you try it with 3 bikes of each kind to average out any manufacturring defects?

Sure it's all ancedotal evidence, but like I said I've heard several stories on this forum now from people who had something very similar happen with the super-lightweight aluminum frames - frame falls over, shovel falls onto it - and it's put a big dent in their aluminum frame. I don't see how a frame with a big dent in the top tube is still "safely ridable" - I don't think I'd ride it. If the dent was in the fork, I would for sure not ride it and call it "unsafe".

And there's been a lot of people, like UMD (if I remember right, from a recent thread) who have gotten in crashes and had the carbon fiber bikes fair better than the aluminum one, enough that it doesn't seem like on average, in practice, there's any increased risk with carbon fiber.

All materials have a certain number of defects and breaks, unfortunately. But if I was going to go purely on experience from myself and people I've talked to in person, I'd be saying steel was dangerous. I have a steel frame break on while riding (came apart at the bottom bracket). Someone else I know broke their collarbone when their steel fork broke without warning. Don't actually know anyone myself that had anything carbon fiber break on them.

Alright Mr. Arizona, I'll bite- how tall are you?

Too bad the links are broken. Anyone remember which Allez models are available with Apex? Just the comp? Thanks.

I believe it was just the Allez Comp M2. That could change depending on the demand of course.

Same thing here, but the LBS does have the new catalog and pricing so I saw some of the new models/prices that way.

Choose the Japanese language site at the top right...then you'll see some 2011 stuff in the right hand menu. That's the only place I've been able to see it so far.

I've seen some 2011 Specialized in shops for mtb; I wasn't looking at road bikes.

Shops have been able to order the 2011 bikes for a few weeks now. The website isn't updated yet, for some unknown reason.

If you want to use Google to see what the page used to look like, you can use a cache:"url" search...

For instance, here is the 2011 Roubaix Comp Rival that I am likely to pick up once it becomes available. The web page is obviously not final since it shows SRAM Apex as the cassette.

That may be the final specification. The 2010 Comp Rival had a Shimano 105 cassette, so it may be the way they are outfitting them.

What the hell makes these guys so damn special??? I mean, other than being world class cyclists that are able to drop all of us without exerting practically any effort at all that is.

Why can't you or me order a bike frame with a custom paint scheme like this? We're spending mucho dinero as is so why not go the extra mile? Doesn't specialized realize that customers would scream like little girls at the thought of being able to buy something like this for themselves?
.......minus Cancellera's name name from the frame of course.

I have been eyeing the matte black/bright blue stripe scheme of the Tarmac Pro... I saw a S-Works White/blue frameset in person the other day, and the blue seems much more subtle than how it looks online.

Um, they do sell them. But they are limited runs, so good luck finding one
