Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hmmm, took the 4 for a ride today. Frame felt great; tight, light, and just right. Overall wasn't psyched about the rival shifting. I don't know if it's because it had never been ridden before, but it was pretty imprecise feeling, definitely preferred the shimano shifting. I was a little soured on it, left the shop feeling that the 105 would be the one for me. I still have a few weeks until my tax refund gets here, so I have a little more time to decide.

Without having a negative word for SRAM,
I like Shimano as well. It's the bees knees.
Again, I'm pretty sure my next bike will be SRAM Red.
"If" I don't like it, I will just wait for late 2012 and
snatch up a Dura-Ace 9000 11 Speed Groupset.

I'm actually in the process of making the switch back. Two years ago I went from Shimano to Sram (Red/roadie, Force/crit & TT) because I thought I'd like the double click shifting and pivoting shift levers better. In the end, neither worked that well for me and I had fond memories of my Shimano. When I got my CaadX a few months back I got it with Shimano and confirmed my preference for Shimano. I now have a black 2012 Caad 10 105 that I got new in the box and immediately striped everything off of it. The new 105 stuff went on my crit bike that has seen a couple races. No complaints. The new Caad 10 gets, new 7900 all the way around, HG cranks, 3t cockpit/post, Yokozuna cables, and an array of wheels I swap between bikes. The only thing original is the frame, fork, and headset. It's currently about 50% built, hope to have it done this week to join the "in" crowd.

This has got to be one of the baddest bikes I've seen. I think I'd poop myself if he ever got a pair of 38mm wheels.

This really sounds to me like the bike is in need of a tuneup. I'm in the process of changing the group set on my 9-5 to SRAM and will say it's far more sensitive to proper cable tensions than Shimano.

Cult I need some advise, LBS has a CAAD 9 with sram rival and force, crank bb30 frame with carbon handlebar for $1,550 good price ? Also does anyone know if the Matte CAAD 10 is available as a frame set ? The guy at the LBS says the CAAD 9 is more comfortable, true or is he just trying to get rid of his CAAD 9's ?

I don't know if the Matte Black is available as a frameset. If I were getting a 10 frameset, that's exactly the one I'd get too.

That sounds like a CAAD9-4. That's desirable because it has the Force Crank (I believe they downgraded after that). Good price? I say yes, but I'm the kind of person who would pay a little more to get something I want. Remember, that's a "Made In USA" frame and it comes with a premium fork (not the lower grade forks). If it's brand new, even more worth it. It's either going to be red or (drool) BBQ Jet Black.

And, it's the complete opposite. It's the CAAD10 that is more comfortable. Owners of both 9's and 10's say the same thing as well as various reviews. If I could find a BBQ CAAD9 and I had the funds, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Are these the specs?

Frame CAAD9 BB30, taper butted, Optimo Alloy
Fork Slice Premium, Monocoque, Full-Carbon

Rims Shimano RS10
Hubs Shimano RS10
Spokes Shimano RS10
Tires Vittoria Zaffiro Pro Slick, 700x23c foldable
Crank. SRAM Force BB30, 53/39
* SRAM Force BB30, 50/34
BB SRAM Force BB30
Chain KMC DX-10SC
Rear Cogs SRAM PG-1070, 12-25 or 12-27
F. Der SRAM Rival, 34.9 Clamp
R. Der SRAM Rival
Shifters SRAM Rival
Handlebar Control Tech ONE, 31.8
Stem Cannondale C2
Headset Tange Integrated, 25mm carbon top cover
Brakes Tektro R580 w/ cartridge pads
Saddle Prologo Kappa Pas, Pro T.20 Rails
Seatpost Cannondale C3 Carbon Wrapped, 27.2

If so, I've highlighted the best parts. I'd make a big deal about how close it is to a CAAD10-5 in price and that the CAAD10 is newer. See if he offers the CAAD9-4 at a lower price on his own. If not, offer him $1,200. It's winter. They might have some bills to pay. The worst he can say is no. But I know a lot of guys who'd love to own a brand new 9-4. If I had the money, I would. When I got mine CAAD9-7, the only way I could get a CAAD9 BB30 frame would be the frame alone for $1,000. (it was the year the CAAD10's were about to be released and the 9's were being sold out all over the place...I was lucky to find what I'm got).

But ultimately, you're the one who's going to have to live with it for years, so ride both and see which one you prefer. The CAAD10 is an awesome machine and it's performance improvements over the CAAD9 are incremental (from what I've read). The difference is really going to depend on what you want and why you want it for.

If I were you, I would only buy that CAAD9-4 because I had to have a CAAD9 (like I did when I bought mine). It makes more sense to buy a CAAD10 speaking without passion, but me, even today, I'd still buy that 9 over a 10 because that would be my personal preference. You can't lose if you buy that 9-4 even at that price, but I wouldn't be surprised if you got if for less. But ride them both.

Ultimately, is it worth the $1,500.? That's like asking if a late 80's Camaro is worth as much as a brand new one. It depends on the person buying it. I say hell yeah it's worth it, but I'm partial. Anybody who knows anything about bikes (especially CAADs) won't say it's not. Remember, you're talking about the last of the USA made frames (especially with a full carbon Premium fork and a Rival drivetrain w/Force BB30 Crankset). That's a winner.

My 2 cents.

That's the bike but in red. Not really a fan of the red, which is why I was interested in the CAAD 10 frameset. Thanks for the solid info, looks like you have done a little bit of research lol.

Yeah! I knew all this before I bought my CAAD9. It was hard for me to not go with the BB30.
It woud've made my getting Hollowgrams on my rig a lot simpler, but I've got a great custom crankset now as is.
Red? Damn. Even still...it's a great deal BUT, you get what YOU want. Someone is going to score that CAAD9-4.

Oooo...Black CAAD10-1. Wicked Hawt.

That sucks.

It's not like the old days when you could get a Black CAAD as a complete bike for cheaper than a frameset.

Dorel sucks.

By the end of 2012, I will have one of these frames (or complete bikes) in my possession. Don't know what it will take to make that happen. Hopefully I can find one cheap somewhere.

But that color scheme is so nice...... I can't resist it...

Must resist.....
