Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The only thing I've changed so far is are the Askium wheels with Aksion tyres ( which really are not to be recommended ) to Kysrium Elite and Hutchinson tyres, the brake hoods to red and the saddle to a Super Leggera Aspide triming the all up weight down to 7,1kg. I've already ridden up the Ventoux and the twin sister of the Ventoux the Signale de Lurs in faster times than 10 years ago. Waiting for a pair of WIZI carbon wheels shod with Vittoria tubs. If you are tempted to buy one all I can say is don't hesistate its better than the bulk of the mid range carbons, extremely responsive and just flies away once you get above 30km/h. Initially I had to get used to the fact that its better to windmill rather than push a high gear, I'm not sure why but the frame does'nt budge at all under load.

88 if I have to go metric, but modern road bikes, if they even list a limit, are usually fine well above 100kg.

The lugano's are horrible. Very high rolling resistance, and will flat on almost anything(pebble flatted mine). Made a world of difference for me just going to a gatorskin.

Yeah, that's what I heard and that's why I didn't even try them out.

I have been riding my CAAD8 for 6 months, 1200+ miles, done two century rides and two duathalons. Awesome bike for the price. I think the CAAD10 is a more harsh ride.

Sure am. Over the summer a lot of my evening rides were 20-25 mile loops going out the North fork, then cutting south around Oak Openings to pick up the South fork for the return. How about you?

I can't compare the 8 to the 10 but "harsh" is not a word that is usually used to describe a caad. I have a caad9 and it's a very nice ride. As other have mentioned, the new 8 is not the same as the 8, 9, 10 series. It has a different geometry and is constructed differently.

I turned 5k miles on my Caad10 this weekend, since getting it in January.

Still totally love this bike, I tell everyone that in the 30+ years I've been riding and racing, no bike has ever inspired more confidence and solid handling than this one.

Maybe it's just a lucky match of my body geometry and riding style to the dimensions of the bike, but, anyway, I endorse it to everyone.

50+ race starts this year, 2 wins, lots of placings using the exact setup you see here.

Dude, thank you for the pic! I bought a CAAD10 with the same paint (the 105 version) in March and I wanted to put white cable on it but wasn't sure...I am going to do it next time I put on new cables.

At 5000 miles you need to get your oil changed

it's a leg band reflecto-thingy for in case I get caught out in the fading evening light. You can't see it but there's also a tail light and headlight on the bike, and you can see some of the reflecto-tape on the R spokes.

And yes, this is how I started many many races this year. Sometimes I remember to pull all the stuff off before the race but mostly I just leave it on there.

Can someone explain to me why the recent year CAAD8s are not up to par with the frame quality of CAAD7 or first generation CAAD8s? Someone mentioned a few pages back that if I wanted an even (closest) replacement for a CAAD7, I should jump to CAAD10. And where does CAAD9 fall into all this (assuming I could find a new CAAD9 frame)?

BTW, am I correct that the CAAD7 fork was full carbon, whereas the new CAAD8's are not?

I'm just trying to compare the frames, not the components sets that typically come on these different models/years.

The CAAD lineage at current time would be the CAAD10. They created the CAAD8 models recently as a lower budget model. Different alloy, tube shape, geometry, non carbon steerer, and price. It's still a fine bike for the money but it's not what has made this thread 160+ pages long.

Thank you for the brief summary. Calling the current model "CAAD8" is awfully confusing, and IMO, misleading, especially since there was once a CAAD8 that was up to the same standards/materials as the lineage.

It really is. As much as I'm a fan of Cannondale, that particular bit of labeling seems like deliberately deceptive marketing.

If you could actually find a CAAD9 (big "if" there), it's virtually indistinguishable from the original CAAD8. The last year model CAAD9 had BB30 (meh), and there were some very subtle changes to the top-tube/head-tube junction/shaping, and where the seat stays attached to the seat tube, but you'd have to look close to notice without the label.
