Zipp 404 Clinchers?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Zipp 404 Clinchers?

Does anyone here have experience with these wheels? I am looking at buying a set for racing and wanted some opinions on these wheels before I pulled the trigger.

The new ones are supposed to be awesome. I just ordered some 808 carbon clinchers.

I have a friend using them as daily wheels and I haven't heard a complaint yet.

I have the alu rim 404's, best overall wheel I've ridden, use them for daily riding too, very durable.

Just got a set myself. In fact, they are still hanging in the garage waiting to be setup.

Very fast, very stable. They climb good too. For 58mm deep dish rims, the 1650 gram weight is actually very light.

Grammer is overrated, even when idiots like you know how to spell, but you don't, so the whole thing is a wash.

I have a set that i bought last year and rude them almost every day and as my race wheels for flat crits. They are super wheels: never had to true them yet, they are fast and hold their speed well, brake well and look sweet! I don't use them on long gruelling climbs or races with lots of climbing...but that's because i'm a pretty mediocre climber.
Go for it, you won't regret them.

Why would anybody pay $2000+ for a clincher wheel? That's like.... buying a Lambo with a mustang engine in it... you pay alot of money for a high end, high quality wheel, without a the real benefits of a wheel of that caliber

You can find slightly used Zipp clinchers, but they're typically $1000-$1500.

The great thing about bikes is that you can ride a Lambo level bike for $6,000+/-.

I am sure most Lambo drivers are not pro's so you could use the same rational to say that they should buy Mustangs.

PS Where can you find used one for $750+/- ?

The alum 404's are great wheels overall. Since they're hollow they make more noise but it's a good noise. I'm big so I get some deflection when out of the saddle but nothing unmanageable.

I find they take a bit of time to get them up to speed but once they're there it's like flying. You might want to look at full carbon ones if you're expecting to launch many attacks in a crit or on a climb. GL
