Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

you know these clamps?

come in all colors are priced great and are around 9g-11g each?

one failed on me today. it sucked... the weird thing is that all the bike shops in the Park Slope Brooklyn Area seemed to be out of simple 34.9 clamps.

Even R&A... I did get to oogle and pick up and sit on a couple Piranello Prince's (one with full Super Record and the other with Di2), the best was picking up a Colnago EPS with full campy super record (it was around 14.5lbs size 58) and then seeing the $13,000.00 price tag.

The funny thing is they didn't have a seatpost clamp... lol... But Ride brooklyn did (in fairness I was referred to them from R&A).. I got a super beefy cheapo heavy clamp $9.00... at least I was able to get a ride in at Prospect and can now research what other clamp I can get now.

I broke one a few years back too. They are junk. I upgraded to a KCNC, that was heavier.

Nice, I forgot you have the trek 5200 frame too. What clamp do you run on that? The KCNC? Do you run a carbon seatpost with the Trek 5200?

Yeah, I use the KCNC clamp, and the KCNC post both on the 5200.

yes but i need BB30 cranks so 7800s are out. since i have a BB30 frame i want to take advantage of that if i can. id say im willing to spend $300-$500 on cranks but if i can get them cheaper then great. i havent really done my research yet but i will soon. i have a few more small parts to pick up first.

by the way i want to ask you did you notice added reach when you switched over to SRAM from Shimano? i got a chance to ride today and i felt like the reach to the hoods had increased some from where i was at. im sure i need to dial it in still but i hadnt thought about them adding a noticable amount of reach. i think slightly angling the hoods up would help a little though and i might try that out soon.

as far as the performance of the new SRAM Rival parts i couldnt be happier. the shifts were very crisp and fast. i noticed a big difference shifting under load. the only negative i found compared to my old shimano shifters was the amount of force required to shift to the big ring and even a small difference in force to shift to larger cogs in the rear. it didnt take hardly any time to get use to the double tap shifting either but i didnt think it would. all in all im very pleased with my decision to go with SRAM.

Yes, I noticed the reach difference big time, but I've run Sram before so I knew kind of to expect it. It gets me into a more aero position but during my race Sunday I had back issues. Lot of climbing in the race. Is there a reach adjustment on the new Sram stuff? Thought I heard something along those lines.

I have a Thomson Elite. Should I get a Masterpiece or KCNC post?

Thompsons are great, but kinda heavy compared to a KCNC. I've had mine for numerous years with no problems, despite it's light weight. I wouldn't worry about matching things either. Rarely is that the lightest way to go.

I'd sell my Red cranks cheaper, but it's the crank I want to sell the least. They are great cranksets.

I was gonna say..... I figured you had gotten busy, which is totally cool. I have a Sugino triple and want to move to a nice road double. I've seen some really good deals on SRAM Rival cranks on eBay, but some are listed as OCT and some as GXP. Is there any significant difference, or will they all work just fine on a standard English 68mm bottom bracket?

I just ordered a KMC chain, got the silver. Couldn't bring myself to buy a gold chain, although literally while i'm typing this i realize that having a "gold chain" is pretty ******.

well, maybe for my other bike.

Ok - I stopped what I was doing and called my buddy Scott who manages the store. They have two 172.5's and 1 175mm still available for $299. If you want to check them out swing by and ask for Scott (he's off on Monday's) and tell him I sent you (real name is Mike Harris).

Do you have the DC or TI? It holds the saddle fine?

Looks really nice! Like the difference the hoods make, and yeah, the chain looks good in gold even on a silver bike.

I have the Ti Pro Lite post, and the Road Pro collar. They both hold find. I've had no issues with either item. Absolutely zero. I really like KCNC products. I have almost everything they make between my two bikes.

16.4lb as of now. i have saved a litlle over 1400g as far as frame weight i wish i knew but im starting to think its heavy. i still have quite a bit of weight to save with cranks, fork, bars, stem, and post. i should be down to at least 15 something by then. after i get all that knocked out i will get another new set of wheels ( thats the main reason im not in the 15lb range now). once i get to that point i will be buying a new frame and moving some if not all the parts over to that.

ok so what do you guys know about the zipp sl carbon short and shallow bars? are they any good? i found a really good deal on some in my size so im thinking about picking them up. i was going to use 3T bars, stem, and post but now im not sure. i would likely use a zip stem as well if i go with those bars. they are light that is for sure 165g claimed for a 42 and i would need a 40 so im sure that would save a few more grams.

edit: Ravenmore you have about made it to <15lb way to go man. what was your goal? at first mine was 17lb then it was 16 and now it is 15 but i will likely stop there on this bike anyways.
