Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Enjoy your ride mate!

I'm going to have to go to Puerto Rico to "get some" of that (85 average in March).

This game is interesting. Definitely not going the way I thought it would.

It's hopefully (my intentions for it) a "let off built up steam" thread.
Not a "create steam" thread the way the Usual Suspects might want it to become.

Ok, PittBURGH seems to be a great city.
I'll have to get around it more next time I'm there BD.
(Except when I'm in WV where of course, PITT SUCKS!)

You should definitely give it another chance. The important thing about Pittsburgh is to "get around." There are areas which are sketchy, but then there are areas that show you why Pittsburgh is ranked as the most livable city in the US.

The sports teams are great, (we don't talk about the Pirates), there's world class education to be had at Carnegie Mellon and University of Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh has emerged as a leader in health care.

(This post sounds like a tourism campaign.)

BTW...The Patriots are named "Gil" in for the purpose of this post:

Pats 11

Went out on our crummy roads north of Princeton on my hard-tail with semi-slicks today. I haven't been riding for weeks. Just seemed like work until I got warmed up. Was starting to feel pretty good until someone on a "real" road bike passed me. But then, something happened that made it all worthwhile. I heard a very unique bird call and quickly looked around to spot it - a beautiful pileated woodpecker flew next to me, then crossed the road in front of me. Those things are sooo neat.

21-11 at 3:00, but the Pats are driving.

30 degrees here, I had on shorts and a long sleeve jersey. Of course I also had on tights, a base layer, a jacket, wool socks, shoe covers, balaclava, and a helmet cover.

today i pedaled only 14 miles. my toes simply got too cold. wind chill was 11F. i bought some chemical toe warmers for my next ride. it'll be interesting to see how well those work. i could have ridden all day if it hadn't been for those damn toes! i clearly should have had a larger bowl of pre-ride HTFU.

That's off-topic Nacho.
This thread is about our inability to ride and the freedom to gripe.

(But I am happy for you bro. )

Go Bruins! wooo! (and Stillers.. Rex Ryan is too fat for even that sport)

Haven't ridden since Jan 4.. between snow and cold it has sucked. Since riding is a secondary sport and I can't afford to eat it on ice/snow it takes a back seat in the winter. 40+ i'll get out but i'll survive. Did order an upgrade for my R shifter and cassette from 9 to 10 speed today got some decent prices on the ebay. And have a friend who will buy my 9 speed parts so it'll cover part of the cost

Trade you. I finished building my new bike a month or so ago and the weather hasn't been nice enough to take it out yet. I'm stuck riding my old beater.

Today was my rest day, but I did ride 9 miles with my sister on her first bike ride. We went an avg of 7mph. It wasn't bad I was able to sing along to my ipod and chair dance on my CAAD.

I did a Saturday ride through Irvine in So Cal and it was 84ºF. I needed to carry two bottles filled half way with ice. A little cooler would have been nice, but at least I didn't need to deal with snow.

The company I work for has a 10+ day shutdown over Christmas/New Years (and eliminates all the 3 day weekends: MLK, Veterans, etc.). Talk about cabin fever - we had two weeks of awful (relatively speaking) weather and we haven't gotten to the point of enjoying riding our tandem in the rain: sans fenders it's no fun cleaning 3 chains, four chainrings, cassette, two timing rings and two freewheels. I know, I'm a wuss. Good news is that sunny warmish (60 degF) skies have returned and all is good in the land of sunshine. I'll be headed to Iowa in a week or so to reacquaint with winter.

It's okay I guess. Especially now that I got rid of those god awful green tires.

I don't know the criteria for keeping/closing threads. But, this one strikes me as absolutely cycling relevant for folks in climates that are not so warm at the moment. Just putting that out there in case it matters.
