Budget Performance Brake set
What is a good budget performance brake set? Im looking at upgrading Tektros, so almost anything would be better.
I like the TRP that come on the Specialized Tarmac pro and sworks, but they are pricey.
So what will perform like those(they startled me when I pulled on the brakes)
The List:
Force Brakes
Rival Brakes
um ya, thats it.
Any help here would be appreciated, like to keep it at the force price level or below if possible, but if there is something a few bucks more that is worth it let me know
Thanks
Brad

Maybe first try replacing the brake pads. Also, make sure that the pads are properly aligned AND centered (contacting the rim at the exact same time). If centering is off the brakes won't feel abrupt at all since one side has to actually push the rim to the other side before the second one will contact it...makes for horrible feeling brake action. Also, if you're using the stock pads on the tektros, I've read multiple reviews for poor performance based on the pads. Many who replace the pads with something quality (Koolstop, Swiss stop, even shimano) notice a huge improvement and are happy sticking with the calipers. Caliper design is fairly standard (with only design flair differences, and theoretical "stiffness" differences) and because of this similarity can work just as well as others if compared using the same brake pad compound. Just a thought.

Read here if you haven't already: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...tweight-brakes
And here's what I have on the way...
Planet-X Ultralight CNC Brakes @ 199g w/stock SwissStop Pads. $175./Shipped from U.K.
They come in 5 beautiful colors. https://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/...top-brake-pads
But try the US distributor first: https://www.planet-x-usa.com/pCNC%20U...ht-Brakes.aspx

For regular road riding, I'd take SS GHP2 (Green).
However, black is better suited for aggressive riding (CX for example) than Green.
I'm going to put my Black pads on my SS and then get the GHP pads for my CAAD.
(another + to having a back-up bike...a good excuse to upgrade your main bike)
