Kent Frame.
I went to Wal-Mart today....... OK I know there's a lot of people who quit reading right there.
I went to get a inexpensive bike to pull parts from. I had looked for what I wanted on line by it's parts and found my chosen bike had what would get me going on the cheep.
I got to wally world only to find there were none on the shelf. But the drop jaw guy working toys told me there was one in the back and he could "assemble it for me real quick" I said NO NO NO, that's OK, I'll take it in the box as I was only going to use it for parts any way. I was pretty shocked once I had striped this Kent frame down to find that it only weighed 5Lbs and 5 Oz. Then more to my surprise It has hourglass seat stays and the welds look great. It must be a machine weld because I only know a few people that can weld aluminum like that and they are in there 60's.
Has any one ever ridden our used one of these Kent bikes or know about the company? I did't look at the frame too hard as I was looking at the bike as parts. I think I should have taken it for a spin first YES/NO?
Hummmmm well, maybe a sand blaster & paint project later.

it took me a minute to realize that it wasn't the frame and the fork that weighed 5.5lbs. hell, my Caad7 frame weighs 2.5lbs. how can they make an aluminium frame that heavy. that would be portly for a decent steel frame!

It isn't what they put in, it's what they leave out--high-tensile alloy, triple butting, hydroforming, and tube sizes selected carefully with regard to their intended function. If that frame were made of steel, using similar technology, it would weigh upwards of 8 lbs.

One of my friends has this exact bike and I've done some work on it for him before. I took it out once after fixing it for him and although it's not in the same ballpark as the types of bikes most of us ride on here, it really wasn't too bad. It wasn't overly jarring over bumps and was relatively comfortable for the 15 or so miles I took it out after fixing it.
