Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Vector Metrigear Garmin Power thing....

I am DYING to get my hands on one of these power meters, I have the money, I have the 705 already in use and I use speedplay pedals already. Does anyone have any info on when they might be available to buy?

Also, I use speedplay's half inch longer pedal spindles, anyone know if they are compatible?

I've quit following it since I've gotten my Quarq, but you might have a better chance locating a unicorn

I read somewhere that Garmin has it planned for a second-half 2011 release and apparently, they are quite good with their predictions.

Oh, and IBPV.

As someone who is sick of goofing with a disc cover, I'm looking forward to Garmin Vector. Honestly, what are the odds that Garmin will not follow through with the product? Big name company with constant string of wildly successful cycling-related products. I would tend to believe they'll follow through. I'd be willing to go back to speedplays for this.

I'm running Speedplay Zero Nanos and wonder if an upgrade kit will become available. I'm with you on that lazerzxr, I can't wait for the Garmin Metrigear power pedals to be released. The Look/Polar ones can only be used with Polar Head unit whereas the Garmin/Metrigear ones will presumably have ANT+. Then EVERYONE will buy them. I have a Bontrager Node 2 head unit which has ANT+ so will be compatible. I don't know why Garmin are making us wait soooo long for this product! Maybe it will be seen in TDF this year and generate loads of hype then Garmin get on every cyclists Santa letter.

Waiting impatiently for this !! I was running Mavic Ksyrium Elite rims but when I got a PowerTap, but the hub isn't compatable.
I really liked the toughness of the Ksyrium's - if cross folks run em, they must be tough - looked cool too (not that matters ! LOL).
Not sure I want to be a beta tester for Garmin on a first release, but it's tempting.

Metrigear. Pedal-based power meters.

You idiots kill me. KILL ME.

Focus on something that's more likely to be available soon, like sustainable fusion power.

Nano's for everyday use? Don't think they recommend that.

Ha.

They will come out with it at Eurobike this year.

Not a hard concept to figure out though. Just need lots of engineers.

Well,

Garmin paid a sum of money to the former owners of Metri-Gear for a reason, and it must be because they saw the technology, and their engineers found it promising. As a Quarq owner, I could care less, but since Garmin took it over, I am a little more sold on the idea that this technology will eventually arrive. But 2011? Maybe, maybe not.

However - even if it does arrive, do you really want the first version? What I do not look forward to....the numerous (my Garmin pedal power meter is not providing accurate power numbers) posts both here and the Wattage forum.

Bikes: Willier Zero 7; Merlin Extralight; Calfee Dragonfly tandem, Calfee Adventure tandem; Cervelo P2; Motebecane Ti Fly 29er; Motebecanne Phantom Cross; Schwinn Paramount Track bike

See the thread in the Tandem forum. At least one person cliaming in side knowledge says it will be out at Interbike.

I would think however that if you don't see them on Garmin team bikes this summer, that it might well be later.

I say we see them at The Tour de France this year.

They will be much cheaper than a Quarq or SRM meter.

I also think they will come in under the higher end Powertap hubs.

If this vaporware ever did come to market I think it would be in line with Powertap in price.

But it won't.
