Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Garmin 510/810 power reading errors

Anyone notice weird 1/2 power readings that jumble all of the data? I can't put my figner on it but I recorded the same ride on both the 500 and the 510 ad I'm getting different avg's and normalized power. It seems like the 510 is calculating differently and recording half power readings.

WTH Garmin?

510 and 810 have issues with power as you just described.

If you want, you can read more about it here:
https://forums.garmin.com/showthread...Readings-Issue

garmin is aware of the issue, but no date has been mentioned for an expected release of a firmware update.

Yep, 18 pages of people with the issue. Depending on who you talk to at Garmin it is either a known problem or they have never heard about it before. It is getting very, very old using my new 810 as a paper weight.

dang I had a feeling something was up. I still cant figure out exactly what the issue is but its screwin up all the power numbers for 3s, 5s, 5min and 20min. Also it seems to be all over the place on a ride(3s avg).

Why don't they use the same calculations as the 500?

It drops to half power several times a minute. The data is useless and forget trying to pace yourself. My 810 sets at home while I take my 500 out on rides. It's complete BS.

In all honesty, this sounds like an easy software fix. Match the Edge 500 = done.

Maybe this is just some buggy code for the newer Stages Powermeters(double the power)

Whatever it is ... something as big and obvious as this should never have passed internal testing and been let loose on the customers.

I was a few clicks away from grabbing a new 510, and then thankfully got distracted and started reading about all of the power issues. It was reason enough to hold on to my 500 a bit longer.
