Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No, but I used to find myself in close proximity to them walking around campus in college. Not many roaming around the streets in these parts.

I have no idea if it's true, but I thought they can go very fast for a very short distance. ???

But then I ride a lot of miles alone.

I have moo'ed at cows probably far too often. I was riding past a large herd gathered up by the fence and did a couple of my best moo's and then I noticed the rancher in amongst his cattle. He probably thought I had lost my mind.

8-10 feet probably? They sit on the edge of the lake and there's a walking path that skirts it.

This says it all. Not the same lake I had experience with, but there are a couple.

I moo'd today at the cows, also asked them if they "got milk." Radio silence on their part. I also bark at dogs if they get up in my grill.

The first time I mooed at a group of cows one noticed me and tried to run along side me, the others just followed the first cow. Only lasted about 15 feet, but it was so cool that now I must moo every time.
I also sing at the top of my lungs when I'm biking with absolutely no humanity in sight, if I'm not out of breath.

I usually moo at cows and I'm pretty good at it because usually one or more will look up, which is counted it as a 'win.' I will also Baaaa at sheep or goats but don't have nearly as much success. Helps pass the time out on country roads. Very tolerant riding partner. :-)

Whew !! That's close! Not a good place to walk a Corgi either. I guess I'll tolerate the coyotes up here in New England.

This evening's ride was full of the sound of peepers with some baaing sheep and barking dogs thrown in. I did not peep, baa or bark in reply.

Normally I get a nod or a stare, sometimes a reply - it helps the miles go by

Anyone else do this or should I should I admit myself to the nearest asylum?
I mostly ride in rural roads, near farms. I routinely see cows, dogs, horses, roosters, a few donkeys and a farm full of alpacas. I regularly find myself mooing, neighing, barking, etc. (I have no idea what sound alpacas make). I find it helps make the ride more interesting.

Incidentally, anyone riding a bike out on the road is presumed to be insane. So you may still want to check yourself into an asylum!
